Electronic Music Legends: Jens Lissat, The Godfather of Techno and His Studio3000 Legacy

For over four decades, Jens Lissat has been a defining force in the global electronic music scene. Often referred to as the “Godfather of Techno” by industry insiders, he is regarded as one of the key architects of German techno and an enduring innovator whose music has influenced DJs and producers worldwide.

Jens’ journey began in Hamburg in 1979 during the early days of disco. By the late 1980s, he was releasing his first records—his debut arriving in 1987—quickly carving a space in the emerging techno and house movements. In the 1990s, he became a pioneering figure in the German electronic scene, co-founding the iconic No Respect Records with Ramon Zenker and producing hits with his project Interactive, including “Who Is Elvis” and “Forever Young.”

Across his career, Lissat’s prolific output has spanned techno, tech house, melodic techno, and house. His discography is massive, including numerous chart-topping singles, iconic remixes, and releases on some of the world’s most respected labels such as Toolroom, Stil Vor Talent, Noir Music, Get Physical, Suara, 1605, and Affenkäfig Red/Blue. In addition to signing tracks to these trend-setting imprints, Jens has founded and distributed over 60 labels, with his own Studio3000 Records and Monkey League serving as the primary vessels for his creative expression.

Studio3000 Records has become a powerhouse for Lissat’s distinctive techno productions. Its releases—recognizable for their driving rhythms, groovy basslines, and anthemic energy—regularly appear on major Spotify playlists, in DJ sets, and on global radio shows, reinforcing his status as a consistent trendsetter.

From 2000 to 2015, Lissat formed the acclaimed duo Lissat & Voltaxx, producing numerous house anthems and high-profile remixes that dominated the Beatport charts and resonated worldwide. Returning to solo work under his real name, Jens Lissat has since focused on delivering powerful techno and tech house gems. Key milestones include a Techno #1 single in 2019 championed by top-tier DJs, the ambitious “Lockdown Tracks Part 1 & 2” albums during 2020’s global shutdown, and six Top Ten singles in 2022.

His performances are as legendary as his productions, with energetic sets that take audiences on journeys through the spectrum of house and techno, often carrying his lifelong mantra of Love, Peace & Unity. His premier appearance at Tomorrowland in 2023 marked a new high point in an already storied career.

His latest Release

In 2025, Lissat continues to showcase his versatility and innovation. His single “Ready to Flow,” released in July on the label Sentiment, was followed by a remix EP in August featuring reinterpretations by Dennis Bauer and D.N.S. Other recent tracks, including “Univrs” and “Lose It,” highlight his signature groovy tech-house style while exploring the full range from house to techno.

With over 30 years of shaping electronic music, Jens Lissat and his Studio3000 Records imprint stand as enduring symbols of techno’s evolution. His extensive discography not only tells the story of where electronic music has been—but boldly points to where it is headed next.
