It's fantastic that David has found some time to reply in our interview about his newest tracks on UV/FSOE.
1-Dimitris: 2023 just started but it will be cool to let us know how was 2022 for your career. Let us know about achievements or goals achieved that you are proud of.
David Green: My music career in 2022 has been a journey of rediscovery and exploration. 4 years ago, after years of production mainly uplifting trance music under my KGproejct alias I took a break to focus on my family and career. But soon enough I realized that my passion for creating music never really went away. in the beginning of 2022 I decided to come back with a fresh perspective and a new alias, David Green, to explore new sounds and experiment with different styles of electronic music.
Throughout 2022, I spent countless hours in the studio, honing my craft and perfecting my sound. I focused on producing low-tempo, melodic, and deep styles of electronic music, which allowed me to tap into my creativity in new and exciting ways.
As the year progressed, I gained more confidence in my productions and began signing them to labels. It was an exhilarating feeling to see my music out in the world, connecting with listeners and making an impact. I'm excited to see where this journey takes me and to continue pushing the boundaries of electronic music as David Green.
2-Dimitris: Do you have already some concrete plans for 2023 and if you are allowed to announce them to our readers please tell us what you are preparing for us in the coming months regarding releases and performances in gigs/festivals.
David Green: As I look towards 2023, I feel like the possibilities are endless. I'm thrilled to have some tracks already released and several more signed and ready to go. It's been an incredible feeling to see my music connecting with listeners and I can't wait to see how these new tracks will be received.
My main goal for the year ahead will be to establish myself as David Green and continue to build my brand on stage. I'm excited to produce even more music and push myself creatively, exploring new sounds and styles along the way. And of course, my ultimate aim is to reach as many ears and hearts as possible with my music.
3-Dimitris: It would be fantastic to talk about your two track EP Amirim/Lypen on UV. Please tell us how these tracks came about and what was the idea behind it.
David Green: My latest release is a two-track EP that's very close to my heart. The first track, "Amirim," was inspired by a beautiful village in the north of Israel that I love to visit with my family. The breathtaking views, clean air, and pure atmosphere of the place always fill me with a sense of freedom and infinite joy.
I wanted to capture that feeling in the track and share it with my listeners. I poured my heart and soul into the production, working hard to create a sound that evokes the same emotions and sensations that I experience when I'm in Amirim. I hope that listeners can feel that they are there with me, enjoying the beauty and tranquility of this special place.
The second track on the EP is called "Lypen," which means "July" in Ukrainian. I wrote this track during a time when I was feeling a mix of summer joy and concern for my family living in Ukraine. Despite this dissonance, I was able to channel my emotions into a light and uplifting track that captures the essence of summertime.
Overall, I'm thrilled with how this EP turned out and I'm excited to share it with my fans. I hope that listeners can feel the same sense of joy, peace, and connection to nature that inspired me to create these
tracks.
4-Dimitris: How long it took you to produce it and can u describe the production process in simple steps?
David Green: I had a really productive year in 2022. Typically, I spend about a week or two mastering a single track. I usually work during the nights because it's the only time that I can really focus without any distractions. When I start the production process, I usually begin by building the percussion and kick elements of the track. I find that this is a great way to establish a solid foundation and really get into the groove.
Once I've got a groove that I like, I start integrating ideas and melodies into the track. This is where the magic really happens, and I find that I'm able to just flow with the feelings and let the music take me where it wants to go. It's an incredibly rewarding process, and I feel like it allows me to create tracks that are truly authentic and expressive.
5-Dimitris: Did you had any particular difficulties accomplishing that particular track or any specific production challenges.
David Green: Of course, there are always challenges and setbacks along the way, but I try to stay focused and keep pushing forward. I think that's the key to success in this industry - staying dedicated to your craft and never giving up on your dreams.
6- Dimitris: Which music composition software or hardware you prefer and why? What is your opinion of the latest movement to produce music with more analogue equipment and with less or without any digital software?
David Green: I currently produce my music from my home studio, using Propellerhead's Reason as my main DAW. While I may consider adding more analog equipment to my studio in the future, I believe that the equipment itself is not the most important factor when it comes to creating great music.
In my opinion, music is 90% creativity. It's not about having the most expensive or high-end equipment, but rather about being able to tap into your own creative instincts and express yourself through your music. Of course, having good equipment can certainly help to enhance the sound quality and overall production value of a track, but it's not a substitute for genuine creativity and talent.
Ultimately, I think that the most important thing for any music producer is to be passionate about what they do and to stay true to their own unique artistic vision. With hard work, dedication, and a bit of luck, anything is possible in the world of music production.
7-Dimitris: Do you prefer instrumental dance tracks or you adore vocals? Please explain to us your position and if in your latest production you have vocals tell us how did you choose the specific singer and if it was great to work with her/him?
David Green: Personally, I love working with vocal tracks. They are already the centerpiece of the production and I find it enjoyable to work with them. However, I also appreciate the flexibility and additional space for melodies and groove that working with vocal samples provides. For my latest track "Amirim," I opted to use vocal samples of short phrases. I spent a lot of time going through various vocal sample libraries, searching for the perfect sounds that would complement the general vibe of the song. Ultimately, I found that using these samples helped to create the desired mood and added an extra layer of texture to the overall sound.
8-Dimitris: Do you believe that artwork on your latest track is good and do you believe that artwork can attract listeners or record buyers? Can you mention the best artwork of a track ever released?
David Green: I believe that artwork plays a crucial role in the success of a release. In fact, I would go as far as to say that it's one of the most important factors. As an artist, I have a particular fondness for the artwork of UV label, and I think that the artwork for my latest release "Amirim/Lypen" is also very good. In my personal experience, I often choose to work with labels based on their artwork, as it can give me a sense of their overall aesthetic and the kind of music they tend to release. Overall, I think that great artwork can help to draw listeners in and make a release more memorable and impactful.
9-Dimitris: Your latest EP is released on the highly recognizable label UV. Tell us your opinion about that particular label and your connection with them.
David Green: My latest release "Amirim/Lypen" is being released on the "UV" label, which is a significant milestone for me. I have a deep admiration for both "UV" and their parent label "FSOE," and I think that "UV" is a very professional label with a fantastic sound. It's an honor to have my music featured on their platform. Throughout the process, I had the pleasure of working with the label boss, Paul Thomas, who is doing an excellent job. Overall, it was a great experience collaborating with the team at "UV," and I'm very excited to see how the release is received.
10-Dimitris:How much time do you spend promoting yourself in your social media and you see this as essential tool for self promotion and getting bookings too? Which social media is the one that seems to work better for you?
David Green: In today's music industry, being an artist also requires taking on the role of promoter, social media manager, and marketer. Personally, I have a daily job and a family, which leaves me with limited time for promoting myself on social media. However, I recognize the importance of this task, and I do my best to make time for it. While I would prefer to focus solely on music production, the reality is that self-promotion is a necessary part of building a career in music.
11-Dimitris: From the gigs/festival performances confirmed so far for 2023 in which ones are you most excited to perform and why?
David Green: In the past, I performed under the name "KGproject" before I eventually stopped. Despite leaving it behind, I still have a strong passion for performing and would love to play my music for crowds again someday. Right now, I'm taking things slow and focusing on my music production. However, I'm open to the possibility of performing again in the future if the opportunity arises. Ultimately, playing gigs and sharing my music with others is something that I truly enjoy and would love to do again.
12-Dimitris: Finally tell us if you are able to make a leaving out of your music business (DJ/producer/label owner/teaching or mastering tracks) and if not what other jobs are you doing in order to make a decent leaving?
David Green: While I'm passionate about music and want to share it with as many people as possible, I'm not currently planning to make a living solely from my music business. For me, it's more about the recognition and satisfaction of creating something that resonates with others. Currently, I work in high-tech and earn a living from that job, which allows me to provide for my family. While music is an essential part of my life, I'm not planning to give up my day job in pursuit of it.
Dimitris: Your message & wishes for Flux Bpm Online readers.
David Green: Thank you a lot! Enjoy it. My message for the Flux Bpm Online readers is to keep exploring and discovering new music. Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try new things. There's so much amazing music out there that's waiting to be discovered, and I hope that my own music can be a part of that journey for some of you. Also, don't forget to support the artists that you love by sharing their music and attending their shows. Finally, I wish everyone reading this all the best in their own musical endeavors, and I hope that my music can bring some joy and inspiration into your lives.
