REVIEW: Eli & Fur - Night Blooming Jasmine EP out on Anjunadeep

Anjunadeep stalwarts Eli & Fur a.k.a Eliza Noble & Jennifer Skillman make a statement homecoming with the four track ‘Night Blooming Jasmine’ EP. The release sees the UK duo return to their songwriting roots - putting their voices front and centre, whilst blending their trademark rolling grooves with a refined production style.
“Our journey as club DJs has inspired us in so many ways and we wanted to draw from those experiences, as well as our more song-based tracks earlier in our career and make something a little different that means a lot to us artistically. We feel this EP merges these two worlds together and we hope that what you hear in these songs, is our love of song-writing as well as the darker, more melodic side of electronic music that tells stories and creates emotions.”
The title track is a brooding homage to Los Angeles, built around an infectious vocal hook and crisp percussive groove. As they explain
“we wrote most of the lyrics while in the city and recorded the vocals in the studio out there so listening to it really takes us back. The smell, the lights, the skies and not wanting to leave. As well as that sense of how Hollywood used to be. The decadence of it all and the cracks under the surface of the American dream.”

[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"] Eli & Fur with Night Blooming Jasmine EP showcase their incredible talent on composing and arranging not just club tracks but rather electronic music that can crossover to a  more mainstream minded audience. The tracks included on the EP are short radio format rather than large long club versions. In that way the structure is tight and well put together along with great melodies and soulful soultry sexy vocals with deep meaningful lyrics.  Night Blooming Jasmine merges warm piano chords, harps and soulful strings along with tribal deep house beats and haunting basslines while on top the vocals tell the incredible story. Something Was Real is the more deep hypnotic laid back affair with certain cinematic moody atmosphere that manage easily to captivate the imagination. Parfume is clubbier and driving with deep smooth bassline, rolling grooves and superb melancholic soulful vocals with stunning synthy lines that brings two hearts together as one for sure. Beautiful and spacious with sparkling synthy lines to blow your senses away. Honest goes the deep darker exceptional direction with vocals and lyrics that will be memorised easily so you will find singalong with ease. Overall this EP will reintroduce the magnificent duo to their existing and new audiences as long as both sides are ready to abandon their comfort zones and experiment with new directions. Looking forward for remixes and extended versions. #PureGold Love IT[/content]
