Hip-hop’s global moment
In a world that is rapidly getting smaller, artists and music professionals from all over the globe influence hip-hop’s sound and sonic direction, content and accent and way of doing business. ADE Beats 2017 celebrates hip-hop’s global moment. The opening Q&A of ADE Beats 2017 will be a lively conversation with Romain Bilharz, CEO Island Africa, Island France and Motown France, who has major global experience as Artists & Repertoire manager, working with talents as diverse as Stromae, Doc Gynéco, Juliette Greco, Ben L’Oncle Soul, Thomas Azier and Efya, and Kees de Koning, founder and owner of Top Notch in The Netherlands, the company that spearheads the on-going record breaking success of Dutch national hip-hop product, on the emerging and exciting new opportunities they see for creative talent on a global scale.
A vibrant fusion of international musical influences
ADE Beats speaker Jonathan ‘JAE5’ Mensah is the go-to producer for successful U.K. rapper J-Hus and has cooked up the sound of a new generation, a wildly popular mix of afrobeats, grime, dubstep, hip-hop, dancehall and house music. The 24-year old JAE5 is a product of the music scenes in East-London, United Kingdom and in Accra, Ghana and his unique sound is the synthesis of hip-hop’s true global moment in 2017: a vibrant fusion of international musical influences, raw, progressive and thrilling. In ADE Beats 2017 closing debate This Is Not America, speaker Adel Kaddar, manager of French afro-trap sensation MHD, Sarah Maria Elvira from EMPIRE’s European division, Live Nation’s Maarten van Vugt and others discuss the opportunities and challenges of the European hip-hop market.
Rapper Joey Le Soldat organized sound systems and rap battles in his country Burkina Faso and worked closely in the studio with the engineer of the famed Stones Throw-sound Dave Cooley in L.A. and is coming to ADE Beats to discuss his popular style that mixes nineties hip-hop and electro with African sounds. DJ and producer Jillionaire from Trinidad, member of electronic music juggernaut Major Lazer, tropical bass innovator Fellow from Aruba and eclectic Rocky Wellstack from Amsterdam, share how their network of close collaborators changes the sound of millennial pop music with a unique global approach and deep roots in Caribbean music and sound system culture.
The full inside-story of Wu-Tang Clan’s million-dollar album
ADE Beats 2017 hosts inspiring international music industry cases, such as the full inside-story of Wu-Tang Clan’s million-dollar album project Once Upon A Time in Shaolin with author and special advisor to the project Cyrus Bozorgmehr and the album’s producer and initiator Cilvaringz, who will contribute to the talk by Skype-connection from his home in Morocco. CEO Stephen White from Dubset will interact with ADE Beats delegates on how his company sets out to support DJ’s, producers in legally monetizing their remixes, and what that could mean for the future of the remix and the music industry.
Sony Music hosts a panel at ADE Beats on the growing influence of reggaeton and urban latin music on pop culture worldwide and their strategies to further grow this market, with C. Tangana from Madrid’s Agorazein rap crew, Sony Latin VP of A&R Alex Gallardo and songwriter Servando, who wrote Colombian superstar Maluma’s biggest hit and works with reggaeton superstar Wisin. And Leila Fataar, outgoing head of culture and entertainment at Diageo, introduces her newly launched venture Platform13 at ADE Beats and highlights her vision on how brands that aim to be part of a culture, also need to positively contribute to it.
ADE Beats 2017 offers a sheer wealth of information for budding beat makers and producers. Previously announced headliner Amp Fiddler from Detroit is a celebrated master of groove who introduced the AKAI MPC-sampler to hip-hop legends Q-Tip and the late great J Dilla and will discuss production techniques during his ADE Beats master class.
In our national program, acts like SMIB, Broederliefde, Jebroer, Latifah, Ruyzdael, Linde Schöne, Anbu Gang and Yung Nnelg share their experiences, Rotjoch United hosts an exclusive session on the ins and outs of a successful career in The Netherlands and in The Great Dutch Hip-Hop Producers DebateEsko, Jack $hirak, IliassOpDeBeat, Dopebwoy, Project Money, Ramiks, Spanker, Whiteboy and Yung Felix join Amsterdam Sound System for a closing debate on the success of hip-hop in The Netherlands and the opportunities, tips and tricks for upcoming hip-hop producers.
