The Jillionaire, Amp Fiddler and Leila Fataar will be present at the annual international platform for hip-hop, bass and beats on Friday October 20.
ADE Beats during this year's conference is going to be the central meeting point for hip-hop, bass & beats at Melkweg on ADE's Friday. The event will present inspiring music talks, networking sessions and business cases, and the latest on rising hip-hop markets, business opportunities and emerging trends.
Finding and sharing musical inspiration everywhere
Influential Trinidadian DJ and producer Jillionaire, member of international electronic music juggernaut Major Lazer, is coming to ADE Beats to discuss how he and his network of close collaborators are changing the sound of electronic music and millennial pop music with their unique global approach and deep roots in Caribbean music and sound system culture. Jillionaire will discuss his vibrant scene, finding and sharing musical inspiration everywhere, and forging new creative and mutually beneficial relationships in a truly global music scene.
The evolution of Beats
Celebrated Detroit musician Amp Fiddler shared stages and studios with the greats, from Prince to George Clinton to Primal Scream to Moodymann to Sly and Robbie, and he introduced the Akai MPC-sampler to hip-hop legends Q-Tip (A Tribe Called Quest) and the late great J Dilla. In AKAI Presents: The Evolution of Beats featuring Amp Fiddler, the successful solo artist talks about the evolution of beats, discusses the revolutionary production techniques used by J Dilla and shares his musical anecdotes about working alongside the great masters of groove.
Creating a win/win for all
Leila Fataar, outgoing head of culture and entertainment at Diageo and former marketer at Adidas, Edelman and her own boutique communications agency, introduces her newly launched venture Platform13 at ADE Beats with her keynote Music, brands and culture: creating a win/win for all. Fataar’s keynote at ADE Beats highlights her vision on how brands that aim to be part of a culture, also need to positively contribute to it. Fataar will present music specific case studies and successful strategies she has developed within this context.
ADE Beats also confirms the first speakers for its Dutch conference stream. Record breaking Dutch outfit Broederliefde will discuss the business side of their road to success in a panel hosted by Dutch neighbouring rights organisation Sena, focussing on how they organized their rights and finances since exploding upon the scene. Ground-breaking independent acts like the exciting young Amsterdam hip-hop crew SMIB, and art and music project Ruyzdael with veteran Rotterdam hip-hop pioneer Duvel, share their knowledge about the independent game, from promo to distribution, and from artwork to network. Framed Beats
Together with Amsterdam Street Art (ASA), ADE Beats 2017 will also host the exposition Framed Beats, a specially curated exhibit in the beautiful art’otel in Amsterdam, with work by renown rappers, beat makers, graffiti and street artists and others navigating both the music and the visual art world. Dutch hip-hop veteran Def P, painter and producer Delic who used to be part of national hip-hop phenomenon Opgezwolle, Steen, UK street artist JPS, Brazilian artist Liam Bononi, KBTR and many others will showcase their work.
During the opening of this exposition on Thursday October 19th, ADE Beats hosts panels on music, art and representation. DJ and producer Waajeed from Detroit designed album covers for Slum Village and worked as photographer in the emerging Detroit hip-hop scene, and will discuss his Detroit hip-hop related visual art in a unique Q&A. Dutch hip-hop photographer Ilja Meefout discusses his work – including his artwork for that Wu-Tang album – and art curator Stephanie Afrifa discusses art and representation in her One Woman Museum.

ADE Beats takes place Friday October 20th in Melkweg, Amsterdam. Tickets are available here, for 30 euros you attend the full conference track with artist Q&A’s, exclusive networking and business opportunities, industry panel discussions, demo pitches, keynote speeches and much more. The event is also accessible for ADE Pass & ADE Conference Pass holders.
