“They have made Converse rock and Smirnoff dance,” Billboard Magazine wrote in a cover article on the company Rob Stone and Jon Cohen created: Cornerstone - a full-service marketing and creative agency that has been bringing together the music industry and the biggest brand names by incorporating major name artists and brands in big campaigns for two decades.
Exclusive ADE Beats Q&A
At our new hip-hop, bass and beats conference stream ADE Beats, Rob Stone will talk in an exclusive business Q&A with Dutch hip-hop entrepreneur, journalist and moderator Pay Kolmüs (NL), about his work with marketing partner Pharrell Williams, Kanye West, Converse, the famous and classic hip-hop commercials for Sprite and many other ground breaking campaigns, and he will discuss in detail how he has been creating new partnerships between the music industry and the business world in a disruptive industry for over two decades. As one of the true innovators in the world of hip-hop, popular music and the biggest brands, Stone will give us his updated vision for the music industry of 2016 and beyond.
Rob Stone (US) is a major force in the music and branding industry. In 1999 he co-founded The FADER with Jon Cohen, the popular culture magazine and platform that has been at the cutting edge of many of music’s newest trends and sensations. Also Stone has been a visionary within the music industry for decades, leaving a major record label in the mid-nineties to create Cornerstone.
At that point, twenty years ago, industry veteran Clive Davis already stated that Rob Stone had 'been at the promotion forefront of the hip-hop revolution for the last decade.’ He introduced major acts like The Notorious B.I.G. and Usher to New York’s Hot 97 Radio station and was a major mover in a golden era for both hip-hop and commerce.
With his own company Stone became one of the foremost music and branding pioneers, working with clients such as Converse, Microsoft, Nike, Mountain Dew and Diageo and with artists ranging from Kanye West and Rick Rubin to OutKast and creative partner Pharrell Williams. Geoff Cottrill, chief marketing officer Converse, calls Cornerstone’s “understanding of pop culture and youth marketing really unrivaled in their space.”
