REVIEW: Grum - Trine EP out on Anjunabeats

A unique talent who crosses genres in style, Grum aka Graeme Shepherd has enjoyed a trailblazing 18 months that has included an Essential Mix, unanimous support at BBC Radio 1, as well as a string of uplifting club hits like "Sunday Blue Sky" and "Straight To Your Heart".

Having recently supported Above & Beyond in both Europe and USA, Grum's classy melodic sound has felt increasingly match-made for their legendary Anjunabeats label and the alliance begins with the brilliant "Trine EP".

Offering three sides of his diverse sound, the "Trine EP" opens with the deep but euphoric progressive of Above & Beyond favourite "U", which blends Northern Exposure-era Sasha & Digweed-esque textures with a big room bounce and Grum's distinctive nu disco roots. The retro-futurist trance of "Lightspeed" recalls the classic Paul Oakenfold Essential Mixes of the 90s, whilst quirky deep houser "Builder" lives up to its name; already supported by Annie Mac and Danny Howard on BBC Radio 1.

A perfect trio, each one pulls on classic, timeless dance textures, but comes polished with a contemporary sheen and stamped with Grum's unmistakable touch.

Dimitri Kechagias review: One of the most pleasant surprises is Anjunabeats decision to take on board the extremely talented with bright future ahead Grum. His Trine EP includes 3 examples of how well equipped is this great guy and how well crafted tracks he can produce by injecting in them something new. Grum starts the journey with U that is simply mindblowing. Deep groovy progressive house anthem with dark synthy riff upon the high-nrg disco influenced bassline while on top airy pads, cinematic strings and colourful synths are added along with old school female diva voices at the background. The result will make you feel lifted and uplifted from the ground straight away without doubts. Lightspeed is characterised by many as trance and the truth is that neo modern super fresh trance sound. Hi-nrg basslines along with euphoric synthy riffs and hypnotic atmosphere that will manage easily to win your attention and absorb you straight away in its magical sonic soundworld. Blissful, luscious and super special track that warms your heart when is raining all night outside in Leeds. Emotional, spacey and floating with euphoric tendencies, this is Grum at its best with future trance at its finest! Third track is Builder which can be called as deep progressive house with housey vocals, dark synthy themes upon the wobbly groove and the moody haunting basslines. Welcome to Anjunabeats family Grum. #TrueTrance #PureGold Love it
