Falling somewhere between a honking blockbuster score and electro-tinged Andrew Bayer symphony, "Mandala" is the first label outing for US duo Bill Hamel and Chad Newbold, aka. Fatum.
Bringing together Chad's love of contemporary dance music and Bill's Grammy nominated studio talents, "Mandala" is a bold debut; a volatile instrumental propelled along by its raw edged bassline.
Jekyll and Hyde in composition, the brooding low-end betrays the euphoric peak time chorus, which builds to cascading waves of melody. A scintillating atmospheric anthem, it's no surprise that "Mandala" has become such a favourite in Above & Beyond's DJ sets since its debut at their sold out L.A. Forum show.
Dimitri Kechagias review: The beloved label Anjunabeats continues to break from the norms and deviate from our expectations. It is definitely the label that manage to build a common bridge between progressive house and trance in the most creative way. The latest release that proves that is from Fatum and is called Mandala. Energetic prime time banger that applies chunky techy punchy groove, pulsating pumping bassline, superb percussion with cool drum programming, vocal snippets, swirling synths and aggressive distorted freaked out basslines. The track builds up towards the first part intensity and raise the tension. Things sound quite raw and tricky but all change in the breakdown that starts in truly ambient colours with mesmerising sound effects and cinematic strings. The piano melody comes along with big synths and breakbeat sequence that leads to the full on hands in the air euphoric climax that combines vicious foundation of beats and heavenly euphoric synths. You get heaven and hell in one track that's for sure! Pure Class #PureGold Love It
