EVENT NEWS: The Running Order of the stages at Mayday 2015, Making Friends, 30.04.15 at Dortmund

Some 20,000 visitors expected in Dortmund’s Westfalenhallen on 30.04.2015. Innovative line-up with over 50 DJs und live acts.

In keeping with tradition, MAYDAY will once again be bringing together some 20,000 friends of electronic music in Dortmund’s Westfalenhallen on 30 April – and “Making Friends” is the fitting motto. Five halls will see 14 hours of music spanning techno, house, EDM, hard core and other subgenres. The line-up is correspondingly varied with over 50 international top acts appearing, including Robin Schulz, Dash Berlin, Adam Beyer, Moonbootica, Len Faki, Danny Avila and Dr. Motte.

“Making Friends” is certainly not going to be a problem at the 30th edition of MAYDAY. Some 20,000 electronic music lovers are expected to converge on Dortmund on 30 April. The scene is widely known for its peaceful, tolerant and open-minded community. “Friendship is vibrant and fulfilling; at times loud, at other times quiet, but at all times it’s real. Just like MAYDAY!” as it says on the event’s website.

And it doesn’t matter one iota which of the different genres of electronic music one prefers – be it house, techno, EDM, hard core or drum’n’bass – because over 50 artists will be presenting the entire gamut in five different halls. Making this year really special is the fact that the line-up will feature many “new” acts, with over half of the artists appearing giving their MAYDAY debut, such as the rapidly rising stars Lexer and The Avener. The latter recently landed a mega radio hit with his “Fade out Lines”. “New”, however, does not mean newcomer. Many of the MAYDAY debutants already enjoy star status in other countries and are now poised to make their breakthrough in Germany.

Headhunterz, for example, is one of the hottest hard-style acts on the planet. Camo&KrookedAustria’s best-known drum’n’bass duo, pack out halls all the way to Japan. Kryder from Manchester is one of the most sought-after remixers for house. And the Madrileño Danny Avila regularly played on Ibiza at the tender age of 16.

Surely a household name at the moment is Robin Schulz. The high-flyer of last year will be behind the decks in the “Arena”. In next to no time he has made it from newcomer to superstar. He was lavished around the world with platinum awards for his house tracks “Waves”, “Prayer in C” and “Sun Goes Down” and was recently nominated for a Grammy. He’s even got the chance of walking off with a prize in three categories at the upcoming Echo Awards.

The techno genre is not so much in the spotlight at the major award ceremonies, which doesn’t mean that it is less popular. Len Faki, Adam Beyer, Alan Fitzpatrick and Klaudia Gawlas are some of the most sought-after exponents of this type of music and will be packing the fans in at the “Empire”, the second largest floor at MAYDAY. This hall will also see exciting “new” acts such as Sam Paganini from Italy and Rebekah from Great Britain. Musically far harder is the “Factory”, with hard-core acts such as Korsakoff and Code Black. The likes of Moonbootica and Aka Aka feat. Thalstroem will be supplying the gentler house sounds in the “Mixery-Casino”, while the “Twenty Dome” will go on a trip down memory lane with classics by such artists as Jam (of Jam&Spoon), Yves Deruyter and Dr. Motte.

But it’s not only in terms of the line-up that MAYDAY has traditionally been innovative: the whole show is also in a class of its own, with more than 350 tonnes of state-of-the-art light, LED, laser, video and sound systems installed on an area covering over 20,000 square metres. It takes several days to set it all up and over 100 specialists are involved.
