The first of two sampler EP's taken from the highly anticipated Anjunadeep 06 compilation, including exclusive new material from label legends Dusky, techno icon Dave Angel, and remixes of Ólafur Arnalds and Aquilo from exciting producers Ryan Davis and Croquet Club.
Dusky kick things off with "4T4", their first release on Anjunadeep since last year's "Mr Man". In the 12 months since then they've further established themselves at the summit of the dance music world, with the recent launch of their 17 Steps label. Harking back to the sound of their debut album - and possibly even their Solarity days - "4T4" is a beautiful blend of dancefloor-ready groove, and lush, hypnotic pads.
Hotly tipped new band Aquilo get the remix treatment from Frenchman Jeremy Villecourt aka Croquet Club. Working his Gallic magic on the airy vocals, Jeremy adds a bubbling energy to the gorgeous acoustic soul of the original. Two brilliant emerging acts from each side of the Channel, combining in style.
The closing track on Anjunadeep 06 is "Only The Winds" from Bafta winning composer Ólafur Arnalds, reworked by Berlin based techno producer Ryan Davis. Delicately placed electronics add a new dimension to the original, drawing out every last drop of depth and emotion from Olafur's stunning composition.
Rounding things off is "Quartz", the label debut from Dave Angel. From his pirate radio beginnings alongside the likes of Fabio & Grooverider in the late 80's, through to his genre-defining work on the iconic R&S records, Dave played a huge part in the early development of acid house and UK techno. "Quartz" sees him delve into bass-heavy house territory, and brings some serious groove to the floor.
Dimitri Kechagias review: Compilations are released by hundreds every week and seems pretty hard to choose the most appropriate for your enjoyment. The 6th instalment of Anjunadeep official compilation is already big news in the social media world and the anticipation is rising as the date of the official release is coming closer. Only the names of the compilers are of course guarantee of the high quality material that will be included in. The head of Anjunadeep James Grant and the always forward thinking dj & producer Jody Wisternoff ensure that the gates are closely guarded and only the finest tunes will be in it. The first sampler of the compilation includes 4 magical tracks that will become instantly favourites to those who search thoroughly for high class deep house and electronic music. First of all is the stunning Croquet Club remix on Aquilo that can easily be summed up as stunning. Inspiring vocal and great performance of very strong meaningful lyrics are combined with relaxing groove, melancholic piano melodies, organic live feel and electronic melodies with warm analogue like sound. Only The Winds is next by Ólafur Arnalds remixed in perfection by Berlin based techno producer Ryan Davis. This version starts in truly relaxing mesmerising magical way with liquid breaks that support magnificently the orchestral parts of the original. If you don't feel elevated to a higher level after your exposure to this apocalyptic track with the mystical atmosphere probably you are listening to the wrong kind of music. The beloved Dusky coming next with their exclusive track for the compilation 4T4. With bouncy fat deep wholesome bassline that punch your stomach and deep tribal groove the track is paying its dues to the early techno sound with much more techno tendency and less housey one. Fantastic groover that hypnotise your senses with emotional sensational calming breakdown to relax for a while and then the second part becomes more melodic and sparkling. Last track is Dave Angel's Quartz that is a spacious late night deep house gem with UK garage influences, fantastic synthy hook, old school chopped vocal samples, wonky basslines and relaxing groove. It sounds so British house in my ears! Anjunadeep vol. 6 is a must have even if you have to survive with bread and butter for a month.. #PureDiamond Love iT
