This timeless piece of classical music returns from the original DJ who brought it to the electronic scene.
People may think that Tiesto, or even William Orbit brought Samuel Barbers ‘Adagio For Strings’ to the electronic music masses, but in fact it was the one and only Paul Oakenfold – its first airing on the cult classic ‘Fluoro’ mix from right back in 1996.
“For my cover I wanted to make something completely aimed at the US scene. Something that would work really well in my sets in the US where I seem to spend the majority of my time touring.
I added a vocal to my new version which I know some people will see as sacrilege but I've never been one to conform to rules and regulations. Every time I play this out it literally takes the roof off. There is so much love out there for this record. Hats off to Samuel Barber. If only he was still around to see what his classical composition was doing to dancefloors worldwide today!”
Paul Oakenfold's new album "Trance Mission" is out on June 20th.

Dimitri Kechagias review: Paul Oakenfold manage with his album Trance Mission to bring at the forefront trance music and communicate the classic trance anthems with younger audiences. In my opinion his mission has been completed successfully as the album has big success and impact in the trance scene and not only. His version of the beloved classical music piece Barber's Adagio For Strings is absolutely amazing as he transforms the track into the wicked neo progressive trance meets big room house version that will crossover to wide variety of sets. The ultimate mainstage festivals anthemic version has been completed successfully with an interesting twist as Paul decides to vocalise the track with really sweet and inspiring male vocal top line that sounds very compatible with the uplifting euphoric classical music melody that will give goosebumps and excite huge crowds worldwide. For those who prefer it instrumental in order to attempt their own mash ups with their favourite acapella the package includes the instrumental remix as well. The package includes 4 additional remixes to expand the pleasure even more and widen the appeal of the track to new audiences as well. First of all the upcoming 2Symmetry service the energetic big room progressive trance version with energetic driving basslines, pulsating kicks, chopped vocal samples and synthy leads on top. The main breakdown is teasing as it plays around with the synthy hook and slowly reveals some hints of the unforgettable melody until to explode out of proportions in the massive hands in the air climax. Steve Haines & CBM collaborate to service their big room progressive trance version with pulsating dark groove, moody haunting Re*brand style bassline and psy trance acid layers on top as well. Spacey, energetic, tripping out trance at its very best that will please the pure trance followers. The breakdown includes great rework of the main melody with piano chords and synthy plucks that highlight the melodramatic tones of the original theme. The climax continues on the same dark psy trance infused style without any hints of the gigantic theme. Refracture change the track completely and move to the breaks style that is travelling, smooth, tranquil, liquid perfect for those early morning dj sets when you feel the first warm morning sun rays. The climax changes the track completely as it becomes harder, punchy, aggressive and recalls even The Prodigy style. Last but not least the upcoming and quickly rising to the top Johnny Yono from USA presents his own electro trance meets big room trance with electrified freaky basslines, punchy bouncy grooves and fantastic recreation of the classic melody followed by huge rave style synthy and the opera like chorus at the background. His climax is full on and hands in the air with the huge classical music strings and synths on top for the ultimate trance experience. Great version that remind us the top remix by Ferry Corsten! #PureGold Love iT
