REVIEW: Kahwe - Sit Back EP out on Anjunadeep

Leeds based Joe Cowie, aka Kahwe, announced himself in style early in 2013 with his acclaimed “Driving Me Wild EP” on Anjunadeep, and the last 12 months have seen him DJing across Europe, alongside the likes of Steve Bug, Move D, Kevin Saunderson and Paul Woolford.

The “Sit Back EP” marks his return to Anjunadeep, with another impressive three tracker, full of warm, organic grooves and dusty shuffling percussion.

Title track “Sit Back” is a fine example of Joe’s style, meshing laid back melodies and rolling dance floor grooves together into an infectious slice of retro-tinged house music.

B-side “Deeper Love” ups the tempo, winding a mesmeric vocal sample around yet more nonchalant melodies, and lazy crackling percussion, all topped off with just the right dose of acid impetus.

From sunset grooves through to late night anthem, “601” rounds things off in style and showcases Kahwe’s skilful knack for variety. Built around a mournful vocal loop and a surging acid bassline, it’s a compelling, almost epic piece of house music that rises to a muted crescendo full of echoing bells and skipping drums.

Dimitri Kechagias review: The eclectic deep house record label Anjunadeep is about to have the biggest success with Lane 8 and the vocal version of Every Night. Now the top record labels presents another superb new name that is slowly rising to the top and becomes well known worldwide. Kahwe from Leeds in UK presents his 3 tracks deep house EP that is destined to become one of your favourites for the summer of 2014. If you love the smooth, warm, sexy deep house sounds you are going to fell in love with every single track of this very precious EP. First of all is the fantastic Sit Back. It's an emotional deep house journey with 90's old school influences and futuristic approach as well. Packed with danceable irresistible feel good rhythm, soulful house vocal samples that warm your senses and fantastic romantic organ riffs from the early rave days. The track contains the Ibiza sound that is carefree, dreamy, relaxing and make you feel at home on any dancefloor worldwide. Deeper Love starts with the well known vocal sample stretched down to sound slower, bouncy techy grooves, deep haunting basslines, warm strings and very summery synthy melodies. The result is a very rich haunting moody soundscape that moves in and out of deep house, tech house, UK garage and balearic house. Hypnotic vibes to carry your mind and soul to many places instantly. Last but not least 601 is another example of the big talent that is Kahwe. Its pounding tech house smasher with acid layers, vocal samples, chunky techy groove and energetic bassline that will rock any deep dancefloor for sure.
