Gamers and trance lovers unite! Two of your favorite things have been merged into one musical masterpiece. SoCal DJ and producer Shogun has released his track "Zanarkand," a melodic and uplifting tribute to the video game Final Fantasy X. Voted "Future Favorite" by the worldwide listeners of Armin van Buuren's A State of Trance radio show #662, "Zanarkand" follows Shogun's #2 Beatport Trance track "Erhu," which released in February.
"As an avid video gamer, I knew the theme song from Final Fantasy X was meant to be turned into a trance track" says Shogun. "I want to bring nostalgia to everyone who experienced playing it. To me, it's like listening to Zelda or Mario--it just holds a special place in a gamer's heart."
These latest releases continue to set the stage for what's to come from Andrew Chen's debut artist album--unlikely pairings of instruments, emotional piano riffs, and big drops with Shogun's signature style that keep trance fans begging for more. Look for the album to be released late this summer.
"Zanarkand" is out now on Armada Music! Grab it on Beatport, iTunes and all digital audio retailers today.
Dimitri Kechagias review: Armind is the globally recognised label of the 5 times number 1 of the world Armin van Buuren so you can understand that every single release has a special weight and special quality that Armin's discovers on the thousands of demos he receives every week in order to compile his ASOT radio show. One of the biggest tracks for Armin is of course the latest by Shogun that will be part of the Armada Music album that he will release in summer. Shogun presents the anthemic Zanarkand that will stand out straight away in any set that you may decide to make some space and fit it in. For those who play video games the melodic theme is well known but for me is totally new and I must confess that I really like the way that the melody became the massive full on headbanging trancer that of course someone so talented and gifted like Shogun he can do. Super tough drums, energetic driving basslines and of course the fantastic dreamy epic anthemic orchestral music theme with piano chords and cinematic strings that will give us some calmness for a while until the massive fat and rocking kick drums strike back for the full on climax. This production is more straight forward and pure trance than his previous tracks with the more aggressive techy basslines. Overall I can give top marks and looking forward to dance in a summer festival and suddenly recognise this anthem coming from the speakers! It sounds ready made for the Electronic Family festival in Amsterdam! #PureGold Love iT
