REVIEW: Emufucka - Casper EP out on Rub A Duck / Black Hole recordings

1. Cavern
2. Planet
3. Planet (Tokyo Hands Remix)
4. Castle
5. Castle (Deech Remix)

For his third EP on Rub-A-Duck Japanese producer Emufucka takes a more laidback approach with 3 new tracks that carry an atmospheric chill out sound, with still a dubstep like touch to it. Yes, that’s possible! The Deech remix of ‘Castle’ stays in the same sound spectrum, while the Tokyo Hands remix of Planet definitely has a little bit of trap going on. A very special package!

Don’t get it twisted, the man behind this somewhat odd moniker is a true future beat wizard that would never harm any animals, humans, or classic sample sources. His blissful electronica-fuelled rhythm sculptures have already created a decent buzz amongst today’s worldwide beats & bass scene and his soundscapes always leave enough space for improvisation and that moment of quirky playfulness. His original sound transcends genre, creating an image of cosmic space and stereo, floating in the jet black outer space, lined with thick drums, dope bass, dusty noise and synthesizer sounds... His space sound restores a sensitive, melancholic yet soulful feel to beat music.

He collaborated with Submerse, Djemba Djemaba, DZA, Quarta330, Coco Bryce, King Henry, My Dry Wet Mess and Tokyo Hands among others; released five successful singles and few mixtapes. He got lots of credit from Japanese and western music media. At the roots of his music there is hip hop but one can see lots of other genres in his powerful music. It’s enough to listen to any of his singles and mixes to understand that he isn’t called a wizard in vein. He participated in the New York of the Red Bull Music Academy 2013 and signed Singles and EPs to imprints such as Black Hole Recordings and Fremdtunes. He also performed at the Sónar Festival Barcelona

Dimitri Kechagias review: The super talented dj & producer Emufucka from Japan presents his latest EP that is called Casper on Rub A Duck. It includes 5 tracks not to be missed. Cavern starts really melodic with dark synths but soon the trap beats are coming in. The track is quite abstract and experimental that will appeal to followers of bass and electronic music. From Emufucka expect the unexpected as he knows how to surprise and open up new possibilities. Planet is a wonderful melodic electronic beauty with soul & jazz influences. Relaxing and emotional, blissful and mesmerising will inspire the listener for sure. Tokyo Hands remix continues on the same experimental abstract style with breaks, drum n bass, dubstep and trap infusions that even without 4 x 4 beats sounds energetic and builds and resolves the tension moments really nicely. Castle is an excellent track with melodramatic moments and superb composition of various melodic synths in true trap / bass style. Lastly Deeche mix on Castle is a laid back / chill out interpretation with some reggae infusions. It sound so summery, warm and tender and is perfect to listen on the beach! Love it
