FEATURE: Renowned UK Composer Philip Sheppard Dives Into Dance Music at 2014 Meltdown Festival!

British composer Philip Sheppard is electronic dance music’s new force to be reckoned with. The virtuoso cellist, improviser and pioneer of the electric cello will be performing at this year’s Meltdown Festival alongside the multifaceted UNKLE collective.
Sheppard boldly fuses classical intricate music with modern electronic sounds and soul beats and delivers them like no other via his own creation, the electric cello. We’d love to have you chat with him about the new score he’s debuting at the Cannes Film Festival and his upcoming projects with some of the best artists of today’s electronic music scene.

Though he's most known for his work on hit documentary films, such as "Love, Marilyn" and "Bobby Fischer Against the World," Philip has also collaborated with prominent artists such as David Bowie, Jarvis Cocker, Jeff Buckley, Scott Walker, Suzanne Vega, UNKLE, Pretty Lights, Jimmy Page and Ai Wei Wei. Talk about pushing the limits, it’s no wonder music legends have him on speed dial.

Though he's based in London, Philip can rarely be found in one place. Already in 2014, he traveled to Park City to the Sundance Film Festival for the premiere of his film, "We Are The Giant," Austin for a performance at SXSW, and Atlanta for a performance and lecture at the seventh annual Gathering for Gardner conference. He shows no sign of slowing down, with keynote addresses and performances coming up at Dataversity in Austin, Playcon in Scottsdale and C2MTL in Montreal, where Philip will be speaking alongside James Cameron and Christian Louboutin, with staging by Cirque du Soleil.

Philip was also the producer in charge of the handover sequence of the 2008 Beijing Olympics closing ceremony, and completed the mammoth task of re-scoring and recording all 205 of the world's National Anthems with the London Philharmonic Orchestra for the 2012 London Olympics. These versions have been approved for the next 25 years of Olympic events. Additionally, Philip wrote concert works for Alexander McQueen that accompanied McQueen's Paris Fashion Week show, and was the subject of part of the recent McQueen exhibit at the Met.

Philip was awarded a lifetime achievement in the arts as a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music, where he is also a professor.
