REVIEW: Orkidea - 20 Ximer out on Solaris recordings

When Finnish "Godfather of Trance" Orkidea set out to release his third artist album "20" back in 2011, it was a celebration of two decades at the forefront of the genre he helped put on the map. Now, the producer and DJ with the birth name of Tapio Hakanen has put his prolific work into the hands of some of his home country's finest in "20 (Remixed)," out November 18 on Solaris Recordings.

"It's now two years since the release of my third artist album "20" and I'm proud to present this remix edition," says Orkidea. "I'm a strong believer in the forward-thinking nature of electronic music & the art of remixing has always been in the heart and soul of DJ culture, which is why I have hand-picked twenty of my favourite (mainly Finnish) producers to create their own versions of the album tracks." 

The time, attention, heart & soul poured into creating the remixes is evident from the very first listen. Genre-wise, "20 (Remixed)" ranges from deep & housey versions of 'Pacifique' by Antti Rasi and Chantola, to progressive variations of 'Sundown' from Michael Cassette and 'Hale Bopp' by Timewave to driving uplifters 'Tw3nty' by Beach X, 'Slowmotion II' by Tempo Giusto and 'Unity' by Solarstone. 

Previously only available as digital extras on the original "20" album, 'Sphere' and 'Lifetime Warranty' join the twenty-one track list. 'Blackbird' by Lowland & Orkidea sees a Darude remix treatment and a sublime chill-out rendition of 'Unity' by Finnish brothers Orion & J.Shore closes out the journey.

Dimitri Kechagias review: The beloved pure trance record label Solaris recordings presents the remixes album of Dj Orkidea's incredible pure trance long player 20. 21 tracks are included on the package with the finest talents having the duty to come up with something equally exceptional as the originals. First of all is Tw3nty on the dirty proggy groovy trance version by Lovetone vs JS16 Remix. Something that can even house djs can play. For Lowland & Orkidea  Blackbird  Orkidea himself provides the electro psy trance insprired prog trance Nu Rave Mix. The incredible Unity remixed by label head Solarstone in its Purest and most emotional style. Floating and flowing trancer to bring tears in your eyes. On Sundown the top notch Michael Cassette provides the deep melodic progressive house remake perfect to warm up your sets. Liberation is remixed Something Good on a superb sunkissed melodic balearic trancer with evident house infusions. Ultra long mix on Slowmotion II by Winkee who impress with his ability to reincarnate the trance sounds of the 2000 tailor made for 2013 floors. On Tw3nty the Beach X Remix goes full on and uplifting with some psy trance touches as well.  Lifetime Warranty is an emotional melodic journey that is epic, tripping and very old school. One for those who like getting goosebumps is Orkidea & JS16 - Hale Bopp on  the hair raising jawdropping Orkidea magnificent version.  Lowland & Orkidea - Blackbird comes back on Darude big room full on euphoric trance makeover that will blow your soundsystems. Orkidea & Solarstone Slowmotion II is recreated perfectly in his own unique style by Tempo Giusto who adds his characteristic sound and delivers a BOMB. Orkidea's  Pacifique reimagined by Chantola who service a magnificent deep trance meets house makeover with cinematic touches. The golden classic  Hale Bopp retouched by Timewave who goes for the full on psy trance makeover that will please uplifting trance fans as well. On Liberation the uplifting trance remix is done perfectly by Mystery Islands who always deliver the goods and please the hands in the air crowds. If you search for a very hypnotic unforgettable time trip Orkidea with Sphere will make you loose it for sure. Classical music themes combined with electronic riffs will build the perfect sound environment to lose it completely. On Orkidea's - Unity the top Allende provide a very deep hypnotic dream trance affair. Pacifique goes deep on Antti Rasi Remix for those early moments to warm up the crowd. Unity is remixed by Mindwave too who goes for the deep psy trance meets progressive trance alternative that is mesmerising and very travelling as well.  Pacifique on Beetseekers Remix is pure melodic meets psy trance version that buils its various layers perfectly in order to explode in its climax. Lastly Orkidea's golden classic  Unity on Orion & JShore Remix we are treated 1st class with a relaxing soothing ambient version. Highly recommended. Love IT
