REVIEW: Paul Oakenfold - Southern Sun (Remixes) out on Perfecto Fluoro

Paul Oakenfold’s classic, ‘Southern Sun’ returns in the second installment of remixes, this time bringing you 4 awesome trance remixes from Fluoro favourites Thomas Datt and Angry Man, Orkidea and Paul Webster.

This monstrous remix package kicks off with Thomas Datt whose productions have been a staple of head honcho Oakenfold’s worldwide sets and radio shows. His uplifting touches with a subtle nod to Tiesto’s timeless remix are a must for any trance fan.

The hugely in demand Angry Man ups the pace and adds his trademark dirty, darkness into a massive acidic monster that has seen early support from the 140 orientated djs!

Any long running trance fan will know Orkidea, whose music has been gracing clubs for nearly 20 years. His Tribute Mix adds a strong, punchy, groove orientated version to the package.

Last but not least is Paul Webster who harks back to his original tech orientated sound and gives up a deep, driving and moody feel that polishes off the collection perfectly.

A perfect compliment to last years mixes from Moe Aly, Cold Blue and Paul Thomas!

Dimitri Kechagias review: The timeless classic is back for the 2nd round of remixes. After the more progressive house/trance versions its time for the pure uplifting trance family to get the hands on it and become an anthem once again. First of all the always stunning Thomas Datt is on board and he service an exceptional modern trance make over that is energetic to the maximum with pumping basslines, rocking beats and on top the warm original melodic themes. The beloved vocal appears and you can imagine some people start crying and getting shivers all over their bodies. The climax is full on with the symphonic synthy lead and the energetic beats to keep the clubbers excited. Thomas Datt is the guarantee force for any remix assignment. He delivers what his name promises. The mysterious Angry Man provides the tougher acid trance meets psy trance rework. It stays faithful to the exotic vibes of the original vocal and works around them really beautifully. Great cinematic breakdown with arrangement that maximises the impact of the well known vocal. The final part is super hard and will give the clubbers the ultimate sonic pleasure. Closed eyes, wide open hands and see you upon the purple skies. The Finish star Orkidea adds his progressive meets psytrance meets spacey trance sound and he raises the bar really high for other remixers in the future to reach. Full on hypnotic dreamy version that manage easily to carry your soul away for a nice time trip back or forward in time. The synths used will recall Grace and Not Over Yet. Lastly the unstoppable Paul Webster is on board as well and he respects the original very much as his remix moves on the same pathway. His tribal drums, driving basslines and exotic sounds along with the mesmerising vocals will definitely travel your senses to mysterious and dangerous places. 4 stand out remixes for an eternal classic! Love IT
