We all know Paul Oakenfold as one of the pioneers of trance, having remixed hits like PPK - ResuRection and produced classics Bullet In The Gun, Southern Sun and Not Over Yet as well as recent hits "Full Moon Party", "Glow in The Dark" and "Come Together". This year Oakenfold is pushing a different sound through his label Perfecto Fluoro, a blend of Goa and Psychedelic Trance. Psy-trance may traditionally bring the image of hippies running around naked in a field, but that has not been the case for over the last 20 years. Oakenfold will showcase his take on the psychedelic sound during Luminosity presents: Perfecto Fluoro and friends.
This is not a sound that can be explained easily, one must dig a bit deeper into this dance genre. Trance is most commonly known because of DJ’s like Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten and Paul van Dyk. They all play trance but their sound, as of late, is influenced by the rise of commercial house. Perfecto Fluoro’s mission is to showcase an energetic, unique and psychedelic sound whose roots originate from Goa Trance as opposed to pure Psy. This showcase will open the doors for artists like Neelix, John ‘00’ Fleming and legend Astrix.
All of these artists are veterans within their style and are still creating fresh sounds, but when it comes to the masses they fall under the radar. John ‘00’ Flemming reminds people that the vast majority of the psy-trance scene doesn’t care for commercial success and the fans try to protect the underground scene. Although, with the up rise of commercial dance sub-genres, some artists feel the need to say no to the softer trance rather than adapt their sound to match it.
Simon Patterson is a perfect example; his recent style change to encompass a mix of psy-trance as well as tech received massive support from all over the world. Patterson has not only by remixed the Neelix Classic - Leave Me Alone but also by used psy-trance elements in his most recent Beatport trance number one hit ‘The One’ signed to Armin van Buuren's Armind label. Fans all over the world refer to him as the Psymon Patterson, instead of just Simon.
We are very happy to see these artists perform during this year’s Amsterdam Dance Event, being a platform for all electronic music genres. For those looking to avoid the cheese and if you are up for a night of deep, dirty and dark psy-trance, not to be mixed with Korean gangnam style, definitely check out this event on Wednesday October 16th.
