Bernie Allen has to be the most prolific artist we've ever had on Lost Language. His 'Ethereal Love' was one of the label highlights from last year and before we knew it, there was a whole mountain full of Bernie gold just waiting to be mined, smelt and moulded.
And what a magical piece it's turned out to be. Bernie Allen's debut album is a glittering prize that's consistently melodic, occasionally dark but with a tough groove based backbone running throughout.
'Sun Atlas' and 'Aviator' kick things off, setting an almost Balearic atmosphere, before 'Slow Departure' and title track 'Mirage', take this long player down a much darker road.
'Late Reflections' holds court at the half way point. A melancholic, anchor of a track and the first single to be released from the album.
The brooding swing of 'California' follows, dropping the tempo a little, before 'Digital Opiate' takes us back into chunky, sun kissed house territory.
'Blue Mountain' - a strong contender for the next single release - has us swooning with some beautiful piano work, before 'Moonfish' swims along for the albums epic finale.
It's a wonderful journey, beautifully produced, from an artist who's gone from strength to strength since his first release on Lost Language in 2011.
Nice one Bernie.
Dimitri Kechagias review: The exceptional producer Bernie Allen presents his magnificent progressive trance album Mirage on Lost Language that seems his natural home base. 9 great tracks that will carry you away in modern dreamy soundscapes and open your imagination to new sonic experiences. First thoughts coming to my mind while I was checking out the album: Sun Atlas: An exotic journey that starts with great ambient intro and slowly becomes a fully fledged progressive trance beauty with Middle East flavours and twinkle style melodies. Aviators is an upfront balearic trance track with melody that brings light, sun, sea shores and endless hours with fruity punch in your hand. Slow Departure: It starts a bit slowly with electro touches but as soon as the sound layers develop even more the track gets more body and melodic substance. Mirage follows the classic progressive trance codes and conventions with ethereal melodies, warm strings and full on drive to keep the energy flowing. Late Reflections moves upon deep haunting basslines, pulsating bubbly beats and highly emotional melodies offering incredible sound experiences. California continues on that deep Coldharbour recordings style sound that is moody, mysterious and packed with surprises. Digital Opiate moves on the upfront balearic trance sound with tribal techy beats and cool piano melody on top to help you escape for a while. Blue Mountain is an invitation to discover and challenge your perceptions. Its another chance to lock yourself in your dreamworld and go for a nice walk at the strange and threatening Blue Mountain. Lastly Moonfish is a sure winner to any progressive trance set composed with the highest quality ingredients and unforgettable melodic content. If you feel that is hard to find the true essence of trance music check out this album and support it and recommended to others to discover it as well. Love iT!
