Skiinfo continues its success with a brand new edition in the “Snow Dance” series. The first two editions harvested international acclaim and introduced a new style and twist to the usual ‘apres ski’ culture of the global ski- and snowboard community. This season, the world’s leading winter sports portal Skiinfo.com teams up with Black Hole Recordings again to present the latest volume in the series. This time featuring only the best dubstep and drum ‘n’ bass, “Snow Dance 003: The Bass Edition” provides the essential soundtrack for an active winter sports holiday season.
From day one, the dedicated ski- and snowboard devotees considered it a much anticipated and appreciated godsend when Black Hole Recordings announced a brand new compilation series in cooperation with Skiinfo. The global leader in outdoor and ski content Skiinfo not only reaches millions of users both through web and mobile but is also active in numerous countries and languages all over the world. Expanding their horizon by teaming up with Black Hole Recordings to release the “Snow Dance” series, they gave an entire community of winter sports enthusiasts a massive alternative for the known after ski party releases.
“Snow Dance 003: The Bass Edition” features two outstanding CDs with only the best dubstep and drum 'n' bass of the moment. No expenses were spared to include the biggest artists in the industry, which led to almost 30 tracks by acts such as Kouncilhouse, Andain, Jagged HedZ, Stinkahbell, Danny Byrd, Missil featuring M.O.P., Blame, Franky Nuts, Pierce Warnecke, Sound Avtar and many, many more.
The hardest slopes or the most elevated tracks will be like a walk in the park; the true snowboard freestyle aficionados will smoothly show off their way of doing a ninety-roll, killer stand, feeble, nose block or penguin walk, 'cause "Snow Dance 003: The Bass Edition" is simply the essential music package for your active winter sports break!
Snow Dance compilation is the finest opportunity to discover www.skiinfo.nl if you are interested in winter sports so I decided to conduct an interview with the spokeperson of skiinfo.nl about this great winter sports portal and its connection with EDM music and particularly the very cool compilation series Snow Dance on Black Hole recordings.
Interview is written and conducted by Dimitri Kechagias Radio/DJ/Music Journalist
Dimitri: First of all, congratulations on your great web site. When, where and why was this web site/portal was first conceived, and when was the Dutch edition in particular started?
Skiinfo: Already back in 1968 we kicked off with centralizing snow reports as part of a Mountain News Corporation, later broadcast by radio stations in the US. In the pre-internet era we distributed snow reports through the University Network.
Skiinfo: Already back in 1968 we kicked off with centralizing snow reports as part of a Mountain News Corporation, later broadcast by radio stations in the US. In the pre-internet era we distributed snow reports through the University Network.
Online business started with our Web Portals in 1995 (OnTheSnow.com) and 1996 (Skiinfo.com), with expansion in several markets including the Dutch market. Our latest move is our global ‘Ski & Snow Report App’ for mobile – all data Free - available for iOS and Android.
Dimitri: According to internet ratings, your web site is the most popular destination for anyone who likes winter sports and wants to get the most up-to-date information. Would you like to tell us why you believe the site is so successful, and what exactly a dedicated Ski fan can find on your site?
Skiinfo: Not only for Ski but also for Snowboard and Travellers. Skiinfo/OnTheSnow is the definitive source of information for ski resorts. The core of our content offering remains snowfall data and resort data, including cams, photos and resort statistics. First hand data that we make globally available, a motivated team is dedicated to help their fellow snow fans with the best information available. Skiers and riders are as obsessed about snow forecasting as DJ’s are about Music.
Dimitri: Can you pinpoint for us some unique and exclusive information about ski that someone can find only on your web site?
Skiinfo: We are the only news organization in the world that provides a centralized database of ski resort conditions for all ski resorts in fourteen languages.
Mountain News Corporation relies on its own wide spread network that guarantees the latest information in our database. Resorts across the world are updating their local snow conditions on a daily basis during the ski season. This makes it possible to inform skiers and snowboarders correct and up-to-date info on the local ski conditions in ski resorts all over the world.
Mountain News Corporation is not only collecting information from resorts in North America and Europe, but also working for resorts in the Southern Hemisphere like Australia, Argentina, Chile and New Zealand. We can work from a year-round snow sports database to do this. Mountain News Corporation offers updated Snow reports, from ski resorts across the globe.
Languages available: English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Czech, Slovakian, Portuguese, Polish and Russian.
Dimitri: Why do you believe Skiing is such a popular winter sport? In what way can someone benefit physically and mentally from their involvement with skiing?
Skiinfo: We should ask all those millions of dedicated snow sports fans that are travelling to the mountains each year. ‘Who doesn’t like having fun with friends in the middle of impressive mountain scenery, and be active practicing winter sports in nature breathing fresh air?’ (But don’t forget to enjoy après-ski and a good ski party once in a while).
Dimitri: According to your web site, which destination is the most popular for skiing and which countries have the best resorts?
Skiinfo: Austria and France remain the most popular ski countries in Europe. There are a lot of great ski resorts in other countries like Italy and Switzerland too, and every skier has his own favourites. From a relaxing ski holiday in Serfaus Fiss Ladis with the whole family, or a ski trip with friends to Ischgl for visiting the Top of the Mountain Concert. There is so much to choose from… You can even go to Tignes Bikini Ski in France.

Dimitri: Let’s focus a little bit on Snow Dance, which is your compilation on Black Hole Recordings. Why did you decide to team up with Black Hole and release this great compilation? In addition, the sound of the third volume of ‘Snow Dance’ is what we term as ‘Bass’ genre. Do you believe that this specific EDM genre compliments the ski/winter sports experience in the best way?
Skiinfo: The cooperation between Black Hole Recordings and Skiinfo perfectly serves our target groups; and most ski-areas have big parties in wintertime, showcasing lots of (dance) music and a variety of genres.
Through this cooperation we not only show our commitment towards our target group, but we offer an alternative to après-ski style. Black Hole Recordings introduced a new style and twist to the usual ‘après ski’ culture of the global ski- and snowboard community.
Additionally we add value through our free download of our international Ski & Snow Report App. Definitely useful for those travelling to the Resorts, or the ones at home to have a look at the webcams – while waiting for their next ski trip.

Dimitri: Winter sports are considered by many people as being dangerous. How can your web site, with the information provided, help protect them from those dangers, and help them to enjoy their favourite sport safely?
Skiinfo: Well, what isn’t dangerous these days? Crossing the road is dangerous too! If you stay on the slopes, you know the terrain and surroundings are being monitored by the Slope service, and it’s safe. In the mountains the weather can change rapidly so a good weather and snow forecast is useful – and available in our app.

For those going off-piste, we offer the current avalanche information in different stages. We provide contact details for tour guides for holiday guests who are not familiar with the region and want to do tour skiing. And don’t forget to check the road conditions on our website before travelling, it might be slippery or roads might be closed due to heavy snowfall!
Dimitri: Let’s finish off with the future prospects and future plans for the site. What changes or improvements you are going to offer to your web site visitors and newsletter subscribers?
Skiinfo: We keep on developing new features for our international audience; we just finished our new portal design and upgraded our Ski & Snow Report App for mobile. But as ski season is starting, our focus is now on delivering good quality content on our sites, from ski and snowboard tests, to specials about driving conditions, and all about the snow conditions in ski resorts worldwide.
Thanks very much to the www.Skiinfo.nl spokesperson for offering those great answers, and don’t forget to download their smart phone application for updated information if you are interested in winter/snow sports.
Thanks very much to Jeroen Polak at Black Hole recordings office for organising this different interview.
