Jagged hedZ present their latest release on the Rub A Duck imprint, entitled “Dust”. Dave Vader, who also sang on the debut cut “Sell My Soul”, once again performs the vocals.
It was on the Gold Coast of Australia in the year 2004 where Jagged Hedz (Dave Budgen and Tom Taylor, both from North Yorkshire) met, while they were on tour; Dave with the Freestylers and Tom with his project Electric Press. The two didn’t start working together until October 2011 due to other commitments (Dave was touring with The Freestylers and Dub Pistols playing bass and Tom was DJ'ing with The Electric Press and setting up his own label 2pin records). However, as soon as they laid down their first track it was snapped up by the Black Hole Recordings imprint Rub-a-Duck. The Jagged hedZ base their own sound on influences that they find in breakbeat, duckstep, house, hip-hop, metal and a bit of indie. Their debut album is in the making and for the project, the guys work with vocal artists such as Lindy Layton ("Dub Be Good To Me" - Beats International and Dub Pistols), Red Star Lion (Dub Pistols), MC Darrison (Ed Solo and Skool Of Thought ) and MC Sirreal (The Freestylers).
”Dust” is the follow up to Jagged hedZ’ debut single "Sell My Soul" and provides the dancefloor with a seriously lashing breakbeat/dubstep combination that breathes a fresh and open indie sound, especially due to the enticing combination of hammering beats, guitar and Dave Vader’s vocals.
First producer to deliver his remix is Jelle Boon, the young producer behind the Junior Master Chief EP and “My Depredation”. Jelle’s undeniable electro house remix takes the original version from another angle.
The Freestylers/Dub Pistols connection comes full circle with the Kouncilhouse remixes. Kouncilhouse started his first drum ‘n’ bass label with the legendary Micky Finn and now runs his own imprint, ADHD Digital. Kouncilhouse has produced with and remixed for such heavyweight artists as Faithless, Stanton Warriors, D’Cruze, Leeroy Thornhill, Pendulum, Freestylers, Ricky Rankin and also MC Sirreal of Dub Pistols.
Next on the menu we have Lephen who recently released his Steppin’ Back EP and whose rework features a sound that follows the line of Nero, DJ Fresh the current UK Bass Music sound.
Last but not least we see the Finnish / Estonian producer team of Relay & Front, remixing the original version into a tight liquid drum ‘n’ bass version.

Dimitri Kechagias review: The superb imprint Rub A Duck part of the Black Hole recordings empire presents the long awaited new single Dust by Jagged hedZ feat. Dave Vader. The original version starts with a superb indie rock intro and then goes all wild and mad into a tough breaks and dub step infused style that is travelling and cinematic as i love my music to be. Jelle Boon has the duty to recreate the original into a peak time electro house style version. Its more upbeat and summery with feel good melodies and nu rave elements such as tough rocking beats and glitzy dirty nasty parts. Kouncilhouse Remix starts with a very emotional deep intro and then is transformed into a driving relentless building breaks style track that reminds me artists like Hybrid. Lephen remix is the rougher dubstep version that has heavy distortions, sharp as knife basslines and great melodic layers merged beautifully with the raw angry sounds. Last but not least the lovely Relay & Front service a superb drum n bass version that is relaxing, soothing, travelling and will sound perfect on early morning Cafe del Mar type of lounge sets. Adorable release, dont miss it! Love IT!
