The Freestylers present their brand new single on the Rub A Duck imprint, entitled “Over You”.
Although nowadays it seems to be a matter of fashion to use the qualification “future jungle”, we can say one thing for sure: “Over You” is a brand new cut showcasing that good old Freestylers sound. Hard, uplifting and with fabulous vocals performed by former Basement Jaxx singer Ami Carmine (Them & Us). The single is the follow up to the highly acclaimed “Frozen” which featured vocalist Joshua Steel aka Flux Pavillion and let us not forget the success The Freestylers harvested with world hits like “Ruffneck”, “Push Up” and “Cracks”.
Now with “Over You” you better brace yourself for a hammering seeing to on the dancefloor; once the amen beats kick off the intro, you know that it’s on. The subtle use of a pizzicato style string melody with Ami’s addictive vocals on top of it form the chorus and it’s that part of the track that allows you to catch your breath for a second. ‘Cause the massive beat programming combined with the relentless, modulated and thick swirls of the Juno hoover sound (remember Second Phase’s “Mentasm”) is what gives the track its strength, not to mention the fat sub bass that will ignite any club in the world. With a trademark hit single like this, The Freestylers once again confirm their reputation and it will be no surprise that it’s exactly with “Over You” that the boys kick off their tour through Australia and New Zeeland. The video is in the works as we speak.
The first single package of two features remixes by 601, who created an incredible breakbeat version of the original; Speakerhead, with a banging filthy dark dubstep rendition and last but not least Franky Nuts & Azzeration, whose version is a reinforced combo of electro and dubstep. The Freestylers’ “Over You” is what it is: a killer hit.
In addition, the second single package of two comes with remixes by Hectic, who approached the original from a really deep dubstep angle; Piyush Bhatnagar, ‘our man’ from India, delivering the goods with his trademark bulldozer style of rough dubstep and finally Stefan K, who left his studio with a steady pumping house version for the clubs. Dimitri Kechagias review: Rub-A-Duck is on fire at the moment winning more and more fans of dustep, drum n bass and everything in between and around them worlwide. The brand new release comes from the hands of one of the most celebrated projects in EDM, the massive Freestylers who co-operate with the sweet and unforgetable voice of Ami Carmine for the soulful dreamy track with the title Over You. You can expect powerful drum n bass beats along with the classic ravey hoover sound and on top distorted vocals. Combination that is a sure winner without doubts. The breakdown is blissful and melancholic with a really warm pizzicato melody and the beautiful vocals by Ami who sings about the need to get over broken relationships. I can imagine many girls and even boys crying a little while they are dancing on this tune as they will identify with the soulful lyrics and will think about the premature end of their own love affairs. If you go for a tougher sound SpeakerHead go wild and out of their head completely with plenty of squeezed and pitched to the limit sounds. 601 remix follows a more classic break beat sound that recall tracks from the golden era of that genre. Atmospheric deep and travelling you will love it for sure. Last but not least Franky Nuts & Azzeration create a smashing version that is an intresting experimentation with variety of genres. I will say that is spacey really slow dubstep and chill out/lounge influences. The second package of remixes includes the awesome Piyush Bhatnagar version that combines beautiful arp like slow melodic parts along with really tough wall banging beats that is definitely dubstep for the rough heads that is really creative and inspiring too. Stefan K provides the straight forward house version with tribal beats, swirling synths and choped up and squeezed vocals. Its a standout version cause attempts successfully I must say to combine the dubstep influences with light tribal house beats. Last but not least Hectic deliver the really cinematic mind boggling and body tripping version that easily can be part of a soundtrack of a well known tv series or movie soundtrack as well. Overall its a beautiful track that Freestylers fans and not only will enjoy cause its a real EDM jewel.
