Stephen J. Kroos - Apophis
Anjunadeep's Dutch tech master Stephen J. Kroos returns with a triumvirate of gems - kicking off with the deeply hypnotic "E-No".
A lulling cruise through washing pads and eerie, but uplifting grooves, "E-No" has been a favourite of Anjunadeep boss James Grant for some time - featuring on his Anjunabeats Worldwide show.
"Apophis" is a bass-driven deep tech-house groover with a cheeky "inside, outside" vocal snippets injecting extra energy, while "Alternating Peaks" completes things with its rising metallic builds.
Dimitri Kechagias review: Anjunadeep continues its mission for perfection with another must have release from the always stand out Stephen J. Kroos. His latest EP showcases his immense capabilities to provide music enviroments that the listener can inhabit and find his/her own space in them by discovering unknown and well hidden paths inside the labyrinth of his/her mind. E-No goes deep and hypnotic sounding so filmic that easily can be the soundtrack on a movie. The ambient sounds and its woobly and spacey beats with the distanced piano melodies contribute to amplify its magic even more. Alternating Peaks is techier with surprising samples and sounds coming and going with a very sexy breakdown that has a jazzy undertone too. Old school house keys are present and evident too. Last track included is Apophis. It has bubbly grooves and tribal like beats creating a deep trance hypnotic like feel. It utilizes old school house samples with the Inside Outside vocal hook that adds to the whole "I wonder whats coming next " kind of feeling. Anjunadeep jewels for sure.
