Trance Review: Mark Sherry & Mallorca Lee - Our Little Game out 25/7/2025 on Outburst

Mallorca Lee was tragically taken from us far too soon in 2024. Not only did the global dance scene lose a legend, but Mark also lost a very close friend. The two had begun working on Our Little Game together in 2023 but hadn’t managed to finish it. After Mallorca’s passing, Mark was determined to complete the project — not just to include it on his recent TH3RTY album, but also to help preserve his musical legacy. The result is a full-fire, acid-laden monster packed with the signature TB-303 energy you’d expect from the pair. A deeply poignant release for us — and one we know will stand the test of time.

This is the version featured on the TH3RTY album. The extended version, which clocks in at nearly seven minutes, will be released 25/7/205.

[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"] Mark Sherry and Mallorca Lee have crafted an electrifying sonic experience with "Our Little Game," a track that is as technically impressive as it is viscerally powerful. This acid-laden masterpiece thrives on the signature TB-303 energy, a hallmark of acid house and techno genres known for its resonant squelchy basslines and hypnotic modulations. The meticulous programming of the TB-303 here showcases deft control over cutoff frequencies and resonance, creating dynamic acid lines that ebb and flow with an organic, almost vocal-like quality. The production leans heavily into robust, tough techy drums that underpin the track with relentless drive. The pounding kicks are likely layered with sub-bass enhancements to achieve that chest-thumping impact, while metallic percussion elements add sharp, industrial textures. The aggressive sound design is complemented by expertly crafted hoover riffs—synthesized stabs rich in harmonics, achieved through complex detuning and chorus effects, lending the track an old-school rave authenticity. Old-school spoken word samples interspersed throughout inject a nostalgic flair, evoking the raw energy of early underground raves. The breakdown is a masterclass in tension-building: dark, dystopic atmospheres are woven with acid overtones, layered spoken vocals, and spiraling synth hooks. These are produced using advanced modulation techniques, perhaps employing LFOs to subtly shift parameters, creating that sense of urgency and unease. The mixdown maintains clarity despite the density of elements, a testament to precise EQing and dynamic range control. The overall feel is unapologetically dirty and underground, with a gritty texture that celebrates the filthier side of electronic music. Each sonic element is meticulously balanced, contributing to a cohesive yet explosive auditory experience. #PureGold – This track isn’t just heard; it’s felt. A relentless, filthy, and powerful anthem that embodies the spirit of acid trance. #LoveIT[/content]
