10.0
Overall Score

Electronic music pioneer and live-performance virtuoso Jan Blomqvist has released his third studio album, ‘MUTE,’ an introspective and thought-provoking concept album that merges reflective lyricism with infectious dancefloor energy. ‘MUTE’ is available now via Jan Blomqvist’s own label, Disconnected, in partnership with long-time collaborator Armada Music, and arrives amidst an eponymous live tour.

The 12-track album was crafted while on tour, where Jan finds his greatest inspiration, and completed in Berlin. This latest work invites listeners to embrace moments of quiet contemplation in an increasingly chaotic world. While his previous album ‘Disconnected’ highlighted the irony of hyperconnectivity, ‘MUTE’ ventures further, offering a hopeful narrative that traces a journey from sadness and fear to happiness and self-discovery. The album stands as a profound exploration of introspection in a society where noise often eclipses meaningful connection.

“We’re living in a world where listening has become a lost art,” Blomqvist shares. “‘MUTE’ is about finding your inner voice amidst all the madness and noise.”

The album boasts captivating tracks like ‘Underwater,’ ‘Destination Lost,’ ‘Muted Mind,’ and ‘Midnight Sun’—each showcasing Blomqvist's masterful blend of introspection and dancefloor energy. Elevated by collaborations with an impressive roster of artists, including the innovative Rodriguez Jr., rising talent Beobȇ, ethereal vocalist Natasha Polke, and electronic trailblazer Bondi, the album pushes creative boundaries. Longtime lyric collaborator Maybemahri also returns, weaving poignant narratives that delve into the album's deeply introspective themes, making this a true artistic evolution for Blomqvist.

Beyond the studio and performances at flagship festivals such as Burning Man (the 2024 edition marked his sixth appearance at the festival), ‘MUTE’ translates seamlessly into an electrifying live experience. Blomqvist’s eponymous live show has already commenced across Europe, already boasting a string of sell-out dates, and is headed to North America through March. The tour delivers a captivating fusion of music, visuals, and a reimagined band setup featuring Blomqvist himself alongside long-time collaborator Christian Dammann.

“This tour is about connection,” says Blomqvist. “It’s not just about playing music but creating a space for people to reflect, connect, and feel something genuine.”

‘MUTE’ is now available on all major digital platforms via Disconnected and Armada Music.

About Jan Blomqvist:

Jan Blomqvist stands as more than a DJ; he's a virtuoso musician, singer, and producer, delivering his unique brand of electronic compositions live on stage. From his early days with grunge, wielding guitars and drums, to adapting to the digital age in Berlin's music scene, Jan evolved into a maestro mastering a new mega-instrument, creating orchestral landscapes at his fingertips. Navigating through a landscape where live acts were overshadowed by DJs, Jan played a pivotal role in the resurgence of singer-songwriter arrangements, real instruments, and intricate harmonies within techno/electro tracks. His impact resonates globally, having graced stages at Coachella three times, becoming a Burning Man mainstay, and drawing massive crowds at festivals and club shows with up to 100 concerts per year. Witnessing Jan Blomqvist live is transcendent; his innate ability to connect and elevate the room is unparalleled. Situated between established success and underground authenticity, he remains professional yet retains a child-like sense of curiosity. Dubbed 'Juanito' or 'El Nino' at Burning Man, Jan's magnetic stage presence and dedication to his craft have solidified him as a true performer. With nearly 1,000 gigs under his belt, Jan Blomqvist's touring schedule mirrors the capacity-filled venues he commands. When not on the road, he immerses himself in his studio, sculpting tracks that resonate with his audience. Collaborations with luminaries like Ben Böhmer and Oliver Koletzki underscore his influence, and remixing tracks for Clapton and Seal showcases his versatility. In a symbolic gesture of respect, Jan sought permission from The Rolling Stones to cover "Sympathy for the Devil." This attention to detail and reverence for critical elements permeates his work, creating nearly inaudible grooves and subtle layers that elevate the live concert experience.

Still dreaming about having his own record label to release his music Jan starts the label Disconnected in 2024 at the height of his success. Born from the dynamic spirit of Berlin's electronic music scene, Disconnected is a fresh addition to the sonic landscape, driven by Jan Blomqvist ́s vision. As founder and driving force behind Disconnected Jan Blomqvist brings a wealth of experience and passion to the table. His journey through Berlin's electronic music landscape will infuse his label with a deep understanding of the art form. While Jan appreciates the diversity of electronic musical styles and influences, Disconnected aims to carve out its own space in the world of deep house and vocal house music. Disconnected seeks to fill the gaps between deep house, melodic electro and smart "uncheesy" dreamy vocals and club versus live concert vibes. The name of the label derives from Blomqvist ́s latest album “Disconnected” where Jan dived deeply into the global phenomenon of increased detachment:(“Being disconnected in a worldwide connected bubble/scene is the crazy paradox that in my opinion describes our confusing Zeitgeist the best.” Jan Blomqvist, 2024)It is not surprising that the first ever to be released single (Destination Lost) on Jan ́s label is a collaboration with Rodriguez Jr.picking up the common thread again: "We are craving for affection, remotely in reach. Constant worldwide connection, but so lonely each. Always searching for something. Yet nothing is found. While misplacing the moments, would you miss me around.” (Jan Blomqvist & Maybemahri).
