Tom Staar and Kryder, two major electronic music artists currently signed to Armada Music, are launching their new, collaborative album as the exclusive soundtrack of Maladroids, the hotly anticipated video game that recently saw its release. Every month for the six months following the release of the game, Tom Staar and Kryder will release two new album tracks into Maladroids’ curated in-game radio station (powered by Styngr), co-creating the game’s user experience on an audial level. During the album campaign, more levels and other features will also be added to the game.
A first-ever move for the video game industry, the launch of this entire collaborative album into the game bridges the gap between the worlds of dance music and blockchain gaming. The music activation, for which Armada Music joined forces with gaming music integration platform Styngr (the first B2B gaming and metaverse arm for indie and major labels) and Maladroids’ developer onXRP (the leading ecosystem for NFTs and crypto currency on the XRP Ledger), is a huge leap forward in the wild new world of blockchains and (audio) NFTs and will be discussed at length during a panel at this October’s Amsterdam Dance Event: ‘Dance music crossing the metaverse, gaming and Web3’, with Michel Peek (Armada Music), Kaj Leroy (CEO of onXRP) and Alex Tarrand (COO of Styngr) as panelists.
On the same day as the panel (Wednesday, October 19), Styngr, onXRP and Armada Music will also host a a game tournament and the Styngr Maladroids House kick-off party at The Arcade Hotel in Amsterdam, where Tom Staar and Kryder will perform an exclusive set to share some of the upcoming music. The show will also be livestreamed in the blockchain-built virtual reality world Decentraland.
Produced on the same premise of out-of-the-box thinking that inspired the creators of Maladroids to bring the video game to life, the soundtrack proves just how versatile its producers are, with album track ‘Aquaplane’ (due October 7) as a sterling example. The record, which also features in Maladroids’ game teaser, blends rocky, guitar-like synths with digital plucks, organic pads and a strong breakbeat rhythm, forming a soundscape that perfectly matches the adventurous theme of the ten-person battle royale obstacle run game.
U.K.-born, Ibiza-based DJ and producer Tom Staar has been one of dance music’s household names since he started gracing major-league labels such Armada, Axtone, Size and Spinnin’ Records almost ten years ago, bagging numerous Beatport Top 10 records (including huge collaborations with David Guetta and Armin van Buuren) and an International Dance Music Award for his and Kryder’s ‘De Puta Madre’. His 2022 release ‘Not Over’ has been an Ibiza anthem across the summer, gaining huge support from artists such as Solardo, Camelphat, Alan Fitzpatrick and more. 2022 has seen Tom regularly perform on the Ibiza shows of David Guetta at Ushuaia, along with international performances at globally renowned festivals such as Tomorrowland and Creamfields.
The past few years have been exceptionally good to Kryder. His invigorating take on big room firepower has found a massive audience on the dance floor and within the dance music industry, leading to releases on renowned labels such as Armada Music, Axtone, Size Records, Spinnin’ and Subliminal in addition to collaborations with the likes of Steve Angello and Erick Morillo. Aside from making waves as one of the industry’s top producers, Kryder continues to juggle performances at premier festivals such as Creamfields, Mysteryland, Tomorrowland, Dance Valley, Ultra, Tomorrowland, Sensation, Electric Love and Medusa with heading up his own label group and hosting his own Kryteria radio show, which is syndicated to over 100 FM stations worldwide.
