The legendary new wave band with former members of Joy Division is set to play a unique live show on ADE Thursday.
New Order was formed in 1980 by vocalist and guitarist Bernard Sumner, bassist Peter Hook, and drummer Stephen Morris after the demise of Joy Division, following the tragic death of lead singer Ian Curtis. Their experience of the early 1980s New York club scene saw them increasingly incorporate dance rhythms and electronic instrumentation into their work and their signature sound of post-punk with electronic and dance music made them one of the most acclaimed and influential bands of the 1980s. Their 1983 hit "Blue Monday" became the best-selling 12-inch single of all time and is still a popular club track.
New Order was also the flagship band for Manchester-based independent record label Factory Records and its nightclub The Haçienda, which was widely recognized as one of the most important places for acid- and rave music. The last studio album of the band, now consisting of Bernard Sumner, Stephen Morris, Gillian Gilbert, Phil Cunnigham and Tom Chapman, was released in 2015 and featured guest vocals from Iggy Pop and Elly Jackson of La Roux. It was the first studio release without Peter Hook and the starting point of a worldwide tour, featuring shows in the Sydney Opera House, New York’s Radio City Music Hall and the Royal Albert Hall. New Order also closed the 2012 London Olympics together with Blur and headlined festival line-ups in previous years, including Coachella, Glastonbury and Roskilde.
