Acclaimed author of Trainspotting joins us for a conversation with DJMag's Carl Loben.

After the recent announcements about Awakenings' five day program, Gary Numan's conversation and this year's opening concert, ADE is delighted to be able to announce that Irvine Welsh is confirmed as the first Creative Keynote interviewee of 2017. The author of legendary tale of Edingburgh low-life Trainspotting, has also written two collections of short stories about his years as a raver at the beginning of the house scene, 1994’s The Acid House and Ecstasy: Three Tales of Chemical Romance, as well a further nine novels to date.

His latest novel The Blade Artist, which centres around a seemingly rehabilitated Francis Begbie - Trainspotting’s most violent and psychotic character -  who is now living in California with his wife and kids, was nominated for the Fiction Book of the Year at Saltire Literary Awards 2016. Welsh has also directed band videos for the acts Keene and Gene, and regularly collaborates with playwright and screenplay writer Dean Cavanagh, including on Babylon Heights, The Meat Trade and Wedding Belles, a film for the UK’s Channel 4.
His interviewer at ADE, Carl Loben, is a long-time friend of the author: “It's going to be fascinating to hear some insights about his breakthrough novel Trainspotting and his other books, his personal experiences in the early days of the rave scene, how electronic music culture has informed his writing, and how he still keeps up with our scene to this day. As well as one of my favourite writers and a personal hero, Irvine is also a friend, so I think I'll be able to get an amazing interview out of him. Can't wait!"

Date, time and venue to be announced.
