REVIEW: James Cottle - Rudimental out on Vandit records

Even by VANDIT’s own lofty standards, the label’s mission to bring you the cream of nu-skool trance has been in even richer form than usual of late.

Just 4 months back Goodgreef resident James Cottle opened his account with Berlin’s label legionnaires with (appropriately enough) the mighty ‘Opener’. Now, in quick-heeled fashion, the young man from Durham is back and ready to mainline summer 2016 with his second floor cutter, ‘Rudimental’!

‘Rudimental’ is no pussyfooting toe-tapper, nor melodic trance head-nodder… it’s a big-ass, arena-filling roof-tile-removing behemoth! Ballistically, James has charged the studio’s sound banks to create a primetime offering, which starts off uplifting and will likely end with your jaw being retrieved from floor.
Has Mr. Cottle managed to go one better than ‘Opener’ then?! Well DJ Mag certainly seemed to think so. Giving it a more than healthy 8.5 score, they said: “following his debut, ‘Rudimental’ exhibits real progression. The tone is still locked in the ‘up’ position, but the longer structure & complexity to its most prominent riff satisfies no end”.

Discover ‘Rudimental’ for yourself, when lands August 19th!

About Vandit records
As one of the most cutting-edge and enduringly innovative labels of the electronic music generation, VANDIT Records stays true to its philosophy ‘No Art Without Artists’. At the start of the 2000s VANDIT made immediate waves releasing a string of now established club classics like Nu-NRG’s ‘Dreamland’, The Thrillseekers’ ‘Synaesthesia’ and Jose Amnesia’s ‘The Eternal’ to name just a few. With an artist talent pool of established names, such as Judge Jules, Alex M.O.R.P.H and founder Paul van Dyk himself as well as lots of gifted younger blood names they keep on bringing high-quality electronic music into the scene.

[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"]James Cottle brings on VANDIT records an amazing record that will please your ears and make you dance for sure. The track Rudimental is feel good melodic uplifting trance at its very best. Energetic pumping bouncy basslines, pounding techy metallic grooves, and many layers of strong synthy plucks that perform high-nrg melodies with certain psy trance touch to them. The breakdown is anthemic with heavenly chorus voices, melodramatic drops, synthy themes and superb cinematic atmosphere supported by orchestral strings. The build up comes with intense drum roll until the beat drops and the huge crescendo moment that everybody is waiting patiently finally arrives. The climax is euphoric and epic but in a very subtle way rather than being prominent or over the top. #PureGold Love It[/content]
