REVIEW: Feder Feat. Emmi - Blind (Remixes) out on Warner Music

FEDER FOLLOWS PAN-EUROPEAN HIT ‘GOODBYE’ WITH NEW SINGLE ‘BLIND’ Featuring Emmi.

Feder’s debut single ‘Goodbye’ went from strength to strength when it was released earlier this year, reaching #1 in Belgium, France, Hungary, Russia, Turkey and Switzerland, and also gaining Top 10 chart positions in a further five countries. Now the ascendant French producer/DJ can unveil his eagerly anticipated follow-up track ‘Blind’.

‘Blind’ pushes towards a much bigger deep house crossover sound with a towering hook and a pop structure that’s a leap away from the style of ‘Goodbye’. Despite offering a change in direction, ‘Blind’ and ‘Goodbye’ share some of Feder’s most recognisable traits – both songs present a distinctive melancholy atmosphere as well as infectious instrumental motifs courtesy of their inherently memorable guitar riffs.

“’Blind’ is about a girl who realises that the guy who was her friend is in love with her,” explains Feder. “It’s about that moment where she suddenly comes to that realisation, having had no idea at all.”

‘Blind’ features the exquisite vocal gift of guest Emmi, a London-based Australian artist who earned a rush of attention when Taylor Swift featured her track ‘Sleep On It’ on her ‘New Songs That Will Make Your Life More Awesome’ playlist.

Feder – real name Hadrien Federiconi – originates from Nice where he grew up with a love of the local and international house and hip-hop scenes. He spent a year studying sound engineering before he opted to move to Paris in order to make his mark as a producer. Released towards the end of 2013, his debut track ‘Sixto’ offered a contemporary update of Rodriguez’s ‘Can’t Get Away’ which earned a strong following online and was even approved by the Searching For Sugar Man star himself.

It was ‘Goodbye’ that suddenly found Feder crashing into the charts all over the continent. Feder already had an instrumental version of the track drafted, but it evolved into something unexpected and original when he and his friend Lyse wrote a brutally honest lyric about her recent break-up. The result was a track rooted within the French deep house scene, but also something that possessed the personality to really stand out from the pack.

What followed was a whirlwind of attention as ‘Goodbye’ shot into the public consciousness. Suddenly Feder was performing at huge profile events including Italy’s MTV Awards, Virgin Radio’s Electroshock arena show and the Techno Parade on the streets of Paris.

Now as 2015 comes to a close, his reputation has spread to the extent that he won the NRJ DJ Award for Best New French DJ. That honour is reflected in his online stats – 40 million plays at Spotify, 20 million views at YouTube and over 8 million track ID requests at Shazam.

In the short term, Feder has the biggest shows of his career coming up when he supports David Guetta at two arena dates in Paris next month, while his remixes for Guetta and Years & Years are set to be released imminently. Inspired by the eclectic, innovative sounds of Diplo and Kaytranada, even Feder can’t predict what direction his upcoming productions will take. Longer term, however, the future is his to dictate.
