EVENT NEWS: Red Bull Music Academy pres. Industrial City Sounds at Sankeys Fri 17th April 2015


Red Bull Music Academy will be hitting the road this spring, rolling through Glasgow, Bristol, London and Manchester for a month-long programme of club nights, shows, lectures, workshops, daytime parties, live radio broadcasts and special events from some of music’s most eminent emissaries.

The programme is peppered with collaborations between local heroes, institutions and labels, saluting the home grown talent that forms the bedrock of these rich musical communities, alongside a roster of world-class heavyweights. From lectures with A$AP Rocky, Seth Troxler and Danny Brown, to experimental sensory adventures from Numbers, Goat and DJ Koze; a Wolf + Lamb all-dayer, Chapter 10’s take on a traditional tea dance headlined by Joe Claussell; Rebel Sound bringing out the big guns with Congo Natty and Earl Gateshead, to a workshop with production wizard Julio Bashmore, the UK Tour is a sweeping showcase of today’s emerging and established icons.

Manchester brings the Red Bull Music Academy UK Tour to a close from 16th – 19th April, with Industrial City Sounds taking over clubbing institution Sankeys for a night of techno excellence featuring Derrick May, Surgeon, Happa, Acre, Dana Ruh and Tin Man. Spectral beatsmiths Mount Kimbie headline an intimate Soup Kitchen show with a DJ set; bass bossZed Bias takes the stage with a cohort of local heroes including ∆KKORD, Academy alumIllum Sphere Levelz, Chimpo, and more; and PRhyme (aka Royce Da 5’9” and DJ Premier) host a workshop before playing Wax Works – A Red Bull Music Academy Special with dancefloor apostles Jazzy Jeff and Todd Terry, Academy alum Krystal Klear, and Rinse FM’s Josey Rebelle. Local duo DR.ME showcase some of their iconic record sleeve artwork in DR.ME’s Jacket; RBMA Radio pop up with the final of their pop-up broadcasts, RBMA Radio: Live in Manchester, featuring new wave talent Metrodome, Paleman, Danuka, Swing Ting, Meet Free DJs and Glowing Palms alongside Krystal Klear, Zed Bias, Jon K, Jonny Dub and Chunky; Academy alum Doc Daneeka and Omar S headline Deep South, and the grime crew return with a lecture from Skepta and a blowout Tropical bash at historic venue The Ritz.
