It's not often that acts become cult label favourites after just one release but Croquet Club is one such outfit. Heavily influenced by the likes of Air and Bonobo, Croquet Club's fresh take on electronica has already earned support from the likes of Zane Lowe and B. Traits, as well as tastemaker blogs Line Of Best Fit and Indie Shuffle.
The debut Croquet Club release "Awake" / "Cardigan" set the tone for "Anjunadeep 05" and and went down as an instant label classic. In the months since then he has remixed one of dance music's biggest acts, Mat Zo, and finished his sophomore release, the Jacuzzi EP.
Lead track "Jacuzzi" sets the tone for a unique and experimental release. Spanning moments of slo-mo electronica before moving into more energetic territory, the track not only demonstrates Croquet Club's talent for melodic inventiveness, but also features his own vocals, which combine with soaring pads in an anthemic climax.
Reminiscent of last year's "Awake", the infectious "Rush" features the kind of deft melodic textures, vocal sampling and washing atmospherics that are quickly becoming a Croquet Club trademark.
"Breath" takes a more stripped back approach, building on a delicate percussive groove with his own swirling vocals and soft rising melody. Huge, warm bass notes and a guitar riff inject energy into this multi-layered to magical effect, as things advance to a cascading crescendo.
Dimitri Kechagias review: Anjunadeep is the record label that offers the best music for all seasons. The very same tracks can sound perfect in a snowy rainy Sunday night at home or absolutely mesmerising early in the morning while the sun is rising in Ibiza. The brand new release that lands on the eclectic house label is Jacuzzi EP by Croquet Club and includes not only one but actually 3 beautiful tracks that can be played in a wide variety of dj sets and if you just typecast them as deep house you simply misjudge them. First of all is Jacuzzi and we deal here with a magnificent melodic travelling electro pop meets deep house anthem with very strong melodic themes and 80's electro pop style vocals. So melodic and dreamy with rhythm that you simply can not resist to dance a long. Rush is another example of high class aesthetics dance music with relaxing soothing hypnotic melodies, danceable rhythm and cool vocal samples along with cinematic strings on top. Rush is simply magical and when is played on radio you are obliged to leave the ironing for a while and start daydreaming with closed eyes, wide open ears and soul as well.It is what I call soul searching heartfelt music that change your mood instantly and change your personality as well. Last but not least is Breath that moves on the same pathway of fragile innocent and pure electronic music with great vocals and summery sunkissed melodies combined with funky guitar riffs. Perfect to relax after a hardnights out in Ibiza! #PureGold Love IT
