REVIEW: Booka Shade Ft. Fritz Kalkbrenner - Crossing Borders Remixes out on Blaufield / Embassy

As promised here comes the second part of this unique collaboration between famous Booka Shade and german soul voice Fritz Kalkbrenner.
2013 was a phenomenal year for Booka Shade, having returned with their fifth artist album 'EVE' and toured the world with their incredible live shows. Stand out gigs from 2013 included their live set at London's Oval Space and their live performance at the 20th Anniversary of BBC Radio 1's Essential Mix at The Warehouse Project.

'Crossing Borders' was co-written with fellow Berliner and vocalist Fritz Kalkbrenner, most notably for his vocals on 'Sky & Sand' with his brother, Paul. Booka Shade first met Fritz when he asked them to remix one of his songs, "as we´re fans of his voice, we thought it would be a great idea if he would sing a vocal for one of our demos for the new album. He came to our studio with the lyrics of ´Crossing Borders´ and within 1 hour, the song was recorded."

'Crossing Borders' provoked a huge reaction with the fans and has resulted in artists lining up to make their mark on the track. Chunky electro-disco from Kolombo, melodic bassline-driven house from Pleasurekraft and haunting and hypnotic vibes from Chopstick & Johnjon. Featuring Andy Cato from Groove Armada on the trombone, 'Crossing Borders' is enriched with acoustic and chilling electronic tones and demonstrates the trials and tribulations of the every day struggle "we've got to go on, even if we stray, crossing borders to another side". Let's celebrate the Booka Sound!

Dimitri Kechagias review: Booka Shade produce advance electronic dance music that perfectly fits the demands of the modern audiences.Crossing Borders is a magnificent tune that is elevated to a higher level thanks to Fritz Kalkbrenner gifted vocals and very dark inspiring lyrics as well. The remix package arrived and it includes 4 superb remixes that will talk to your heart and move big crowds the forthcoming summer season. First of all the outstanding version by Pleasurekraft who creatively reconstructs the original by keeping it in the deep house territory but you get the sense that has certain dynamism and has that upfront attitude. Playful chunky hooky groove and melodramatic old synths combined with organic elements like guitar riffs  along with the distorted original vocals that now sound more cold and distanced. Chopstick & Johnjon Remix is a bubbly deep progressive house version with 80's electro pop atmosphere with haunting dark industrial synths, great hypnotic groove and minimal application of the nice vocals. Its great version for those who would like to build a nice journey in their set  and transfer the audience to another secret dimension.  Kolombo remix goes the deep tech house meets electro pathway with minimal arrangement that follows the great song. The result is irresistibly groovy and will hook you instantly. The Greek trio T. Triantafillou & CJ Jeff Vs M. Safras Remix  provide the dark and moody translation of the original with techy chunky groove combined very creatively with  chopped vocal samples, deep funky basslines and just a spoken part of the uber cool vocal. It's an imaginative, creative and really sparkling version. #PureGold Love It
