REVIEW: Markus Schulz - Buenos Aires 13 Unmixed Extended Versions v.2 on Armada Music

With the expansion of global electronic music culture at a rate like never before, it is difficult to find many countries that can boast a feverish admiration for the genre than Argentina. And over the past number of years, few have felt the affection and resonance of the fans as passionately as 2012 America's Best DJ Markus Schulz.

Following on from acclaimed titles such as Prague '11 and Los Angeles '12, Schulz takes his famed city compilation series to South America for the first time, and can cite several instances where his connection with Buenos Aires has stood out above others. He was specifically chosen to entertain the masses during the country's Bicentennial celebrations, and cites the relationship between himself and the local patrons as pivotal inspirations when in studio production mode.

2013 has already been littered with personal Buenos Aires gig highlights for the Miami based DJ. Despite torrential weather, the Argentinean faithful remained in force to support Markus when the city hosted its own edition of the Ultra Music Festival in February. And the final seeds of his chosen city were sewn in June, in the immediate aftermath of two sellout performances at Mandarine nightclub, where he demonstrated his immense DJing art craft by playing for a total of almost 15 hours.

As is customary with the Markus Schulz city compilation experience, he pools the essential resources from fellow members of his Coldharbour family, including South American talents KhoMha and Danilo Ercole. Significant contributors to the Buenos Aires story also include Rex Mundi, Digital X, Grube & Hovsepian, Fisherman & Hawkins vs Nifra, M.I.K.E., Basil O'Glue and Protoculture among many others.

Markus himself factors prominently across both discs, boasting brand new singles and remixes, including a fresh take on the iconic Solarcoaster by Solarstone, a new collaboration with the incredibly talented Rex Mundi, and another foray into his deeper and darker Dakota alter-ego with the track Barracas. His tradition of anointing a new alias continues through Buenos Aires, with Marscela responsible for the first and last moments of the journey.

One of the standout highlights of the compilation is "Remember This" - which will intrinsically link the Buenos Aires compilation with Schulz's next artist album Scream 2. The choice of the Argentinean capital was primarily due to memories of the long nights and mornings shared with the patrons, and with Buenos Aires '13, the worldwide SchulzArmy members will have many reasons to attach memories of their own towards this musical experience for years to come.

Dimitri Kechagias review: The Buenos Aires 2013 compilation is essential for any trance fan worldwide. Markus Schulz manage to capture the essence of the nighlife of the cosmopolitan city with his compilation including many exclusives that now are released in their full and extended versions for the common djs out there to play and get their crowd for a mind trip in Buenos Aires. The tracks included on the 2nd bundle are right and exact to energise your floors. Fisherman & Hawkins vs Nifra present their top anthem The Battle. Its hard hitting big room dark trancer that is energetic and epic to the maximum with unforgettable roof raising rave style synthy lead that will cause mayhem on the floor the least. The stars from Poland Purple Stories deliver their playful progressive beauty Praia Da Adraga with romantic emotional piano breakdown followed by classic trance sequence with wah wah heavenly style voices and the renaissance classical music influenced melody on top. Markus Schulz feat. Ana Diaz  mega smasher Nothing Without Me is included in its unreleased until now MS Shadows of Coldharbour Remix. Its energetic progressive trance version with attention to the rich melodic layers, the deep haunting basslines and the fantastic Ana Diaz voice that we hope to see her again in an EDM track soon. If you search for vocal trance perfection check out this beauty that is deeply emotional and so travelling. Digital X is represented in the compilation with Stratosphere as well. His techy groovy deep haunting dark trancer with electronic melodies, classical music inspired synths and packed with amazing energy that is destined to blow the roofs. The always on great shape Sensetive5 presents his stunning Sin City that is highly cinematic atmospheric dark progressive trancer on that moody Coldharbour recordings established and beloved sound. Its actually quite melancholic but the track allows from the darkness the light of hope to appear with the huge synthy lead that comes to the surface and clean the dirtiness and dustiness in our soul. His climax is epic and hands in the air so expect the crowd to totally lost it and float and flow in the air. Crystal Design comes next with  Scarface that is the light deep progressive trancer that will recall very early trance tracks from the past and can be used to keep the pace in your mix and slowly build upon the mesmerising hypnotic atmosphere that the cinematic strings and warm pianos create. Any dj who plays that Markus Schulz sound were wishing to get them and here  they are as perfect Christmas treat! Love iT
