REVIEW: Chanel Cochrane - Cult Music out on Wildlife / Black Hole recordings

01. Original
02. J Hazzrd Remix

Chanel Cochrane presents her debut for the Wildlife imprint with the single "Cult Music".

Chanel Cochrane's career spans over two decades. She has been in demand as an international DJ, musician, writer and producer. As DJ Chen, she first took to the decks on a pair of belt-driven turntables back in 2003, but soon won a residency in London's Oxford Circus before evolving to large and famed venues. In 2008 she made her Ibiza debut for Dirty Dubbin promotions and a year later she played alongside South Africa's finest DJs at dance festival H2O, as well as headlining numerous times at superclub Truth. She has played alongside some of the biggest names in the industry such as Armin van Buuren, Fedde Le Grand, Judge Jules, Mark Knight, Mauro Picotto, Fergie, Gavyn Mytchel, Lee Haslam, Hilton Caswell, Dave Spoon, Paul van Dyk, and many more. In 2011 Chanel co-founded new label Spinning Quickly with Hilton Caswell, and so far released more than 15 tracks on all major portals including Beatport.

"Cult Music" brings positive heat to the dance floor with a smashing, soulful production that truly honors the classical, well produced house sound we know from big labels like Strictly Rhythm and Cutting Records. The remix was conceived by J Hazzrd a.k.a. Jorge Martins, an upcoming producer in the underground house scene. His love for the sound of Detroit and deep house rings through in his new rendition of the original version. Fully living up to its title, "Cult Music" is on its way to become a future classic!

Dimitri Kechagias review: There are many house record labels outhere but Wildlife stands out from the rest for its very unique taste and flavour in its releases. Every single release has something different, unique and you feel that belongs to Wildlife style. From the more upfront vocal house numbers to more traditional classic house sound tracks like the latest one by Chanel Cochrane. Cult Music is a beautiful deep tech house tune that has the groove, funk and soul that you search on a classic house record that respect its ancestors and roots and builds upon them. The cool intoxicated male vocal sample highlights the quality levels of the original and works so well upon those very old school but modern too beats and pieces. J Hazzrd has the courage and imagination to take the excellent original and render it to even deeper, sexier, smoothest teritories. What is also really intresting is the addition of spoken female vocals along with the male ones creating a nice impression of dialogue that works so well. Packed with great atmosphere and influences from variety of styles it can only make me imagine of listening this beauty on my iphone while Im walking around Amsterdam city, a place that you can fell in love with. Love IT!
