55,000 stars at NATURE ONE
18th NATURE ONE from 3 - 5 August with over 300 DJs on 23 stages

“You.Are.Star.” – the motto for a long weekend of partying on the Pydna missile base in Rhineland-Palatinate from 3 to 5 August to celebrate Germany’s largest festival for electronic music: NATURE ONE. Over 300 DJs and LiveActs will be playing on 23 stages, with the line-up including such names as Paul van Dyk, Sander van Doorn, Sven Väth, Hardwell and Dubfire. 55,000 visitors are expected for the 18th edition of the festival, which will actually be getting under way on the Thursday (2.8.) at the “MixeryOpening” in the CampingVillage.

The festivalgoers are the stars. This has been the overriding maxim at NATURE ONE for 18 years now, and a highly successful one as well, for the festival on the Pydna missile base has for a long time been by far the largest and most popular of its kind in Germany. “Instead of the crowd cheering guitar-plucking men on an oversized stage, it’s the dance floor that is the focal point of the NATURE ONE event,” says Oliver Vordemvenne of the event organising agency I-Motion. “Thanks to four, six or eight point surround sound and the lighting systems focussing on the dance floor as well, the visitors take centre stage at the party. And they’re not spectators – they’re ravers.”
And they want to party. To make sure they can do just that, the line-up of artists consists of out-and-out professionals of the electronic music scene: for example Paul van Dyk, Sander van Doorn and Hardwell on the “Open Air Floor”, the likes of Sven Väth and Dubfire in the “Century Circus”, Da Hool on the “Classic Terminal” and Moonbootica in the “House of House”. LiveActs such as Rank1, AKA AKA feat. Thalstroem, Terence Fixmer, Dapayk, Extrawelt and Laserkraft 3D are likewise going into action to treat the visitors to a unique weekend.

There are 23 floors at NATURE ONE, ranging from the huge “Open-Air-Floor” with space for ten thousand to the small club floor in one of the former missile bunkers for a couple of hundred people. The over 300 DJs cover the entire gamut of electronic music. From trance to techno through to house and hard core. The 19 club floors are operated by other organisers, clubs or labels from Germany and abroad. “It creates an incredible variety. Whether it’s the Tresor from Berlin, Thunderdome from Holland or the Airport from Würzburg – all of them bring their DJs and community with them. You just can’t get more scene, more underground,” says Vordemvenne.

The “CampingVillage” is equivalent in size to 130 football pitches and it’s where most of the 55,000 visitors “sleep” – well, perhaps a few of them. Amateur and budding DJs play non-stop from Thursday morning to Sunday evening on the hundreds of sound systems they have set up. The trend is in any case moving towards XXL partying, and as Vordemvenne says: “The day when most people arrive is now the Thursday. Many of them stay until Sunday evening, some until Monday.” The official kick-off for the long NatureOne- weekend is traditionally at the “MixeryOpening” in the CampingVillage on Thursday evening.
A phenomenal technical effort is called for to actually get an open-air event in this league up and running. Electric power, water, toilets, technical equipment, marquees and stages are installed by some 800 staff. A total of three kilometres of aluminium trussing, 800 moving lights, over 800 speakers with a total power output of one million watts, nearly 1,000 square metres of LED surfaces and 22 kilometres of cable are needed. And when everything is finally ready, they are in the limelight – the 55,000 stars at NATURE
