REVIEW: Rex Mundi - Opaque E.P. out on Coldharbour/Armada Music

1.Opaque (Original Mix)
2.Shocking Blue (Original Mix)
3.The Black Hole (Original Mix)

Dutch maestro Rex Mundi is back under the Coldharbour Recordings spotlight once again, as he presents the latest three-track bundle curtailed within his Opaque E.P.

When the details of Markus Schulz’s Los Angeles ’12 compilation were revealed, no one was surprised to see Rex’s name up in lights, having significantly contributed to the city series projects since Amsterdam ’08. Occupying slots on disc 2 were two tracks built to rock the dancefloors, and on the evidence presented so far, they are fulfilling their intentions.

Leading track Opaque lends itself towards comparisons with previous Mundi stalwart Interstate of Lightning, with a continual driving and uplifting feel that works well in both radio and live environments. Rex tries his hand at the modern day party sound with Shocking Blue, and what may appear to be a surprise to many, it is one that will hook you in after several listens. The Black Hole is a much darker and broodier affair, yet to be discovered by many but will gather momentum in due course.

With the three tracks on offer, Rex demonstrates that his diverse production skills come to the fore once again. Opaque and Shocking Blue will likely dominate the playlists in the coming months, and with The Black Hole ready to pounce on top.

Dimitri Kechagias review: Coldharbour is one of those labels that stays true to its principles of delivering amazing atmospheric progressive trancers and of course the return of the star Rex Mundi is something worth celebrating it with continuous plays in your dj sets. His brand new EP is unbelievable perfect with 3 great tracks that will keep you happy for many days and long listening nights. First of all is the XL size Opague. Big room progressive trancer with immense drive and amazing hooky riff and groove to surrender you till its last second of the nearly 10 that lasts of course. Next on that not to be missed EP is the fantastic Shocking Blue. Progressive trance at its best with epic progressive house touches too so I can imagine friends of the Swedish house sounds can drop it as well with great success. Fat thunderous and driving electro influenced basslines and superb breakdown with AVICII style melodic riff that would be hard to avoid in the coming months. All the above with a trancy twist of course. The Black Hole is a deeper progressive trance affair with a breakdown that reveals a mysterious dark sinister electronica style riff that sound like being swallowed in a huge and endless Black Hole that will lead your spaceship in the Coldharbour galaxy that each planets has the name of Coldharbour stars. Welcome to planet Rex Mundi. WE party all night with no sleep. Love It!
