Academik's new release veers into techno territory with Jan van Lier's "True Stories".

The original mix of "True Stories" is a driving blend of rolling subsonic bass, topped off with house elements and a rising lead that keeps pushing the energy higher as the track evolves. As with Jan's previous hits on Definitive and Blu-Fin, "True Stories" is a main room techno crowd-pleaser that works beautifully in both headlining and afterhours sets.

Francis Prève's take on "True Stories" turns up the boom with a funky, electro-tinged bass line, gene-spliced with mutated versions of the original house elements. From there, Prève takes the rising synth of the original and morphs it into an 80s-inflected big room lead that combines catchy with classic, while staying true to the original vibe.

The result is a peak-time tech house groover that fits equally well into electro and progressive sets.

Dimitri Kechagias review: After the huge success of    Gabriel & Dresden vs. Francis Prève "Servo vs. Colossus", the newly established record label Academik records is back to teach us on a very concise and adacemic way one thing or two about the real underground sound and the true stories about it. Jan van Lier original mix is a bouncy stompin driving techno groover that builds relentlessly and keep your feet on the dancefloor as it works like a magnet that vibrates its dark but very pleasurable sensations. What I really like is the cool male vocal sample saying True Stories. The whole production is solid, rounded and ready to get many plays on clean cut techno sets. The awesome Francis Prève's from his side delivers the more playful, chunky, electro house or even dirty dutch influenced version that is more tech house and less techno. Francis adds even old school vocal samples that really in a way connect the present with the past of club culture. The whole production is adventurous,electrifying and I'm sure that this version will introduce the track to a whole new audience that like tech house with funky edge. Love It!
