Dimitri Kechagias review: Discover A&R head, the talented Activa delivers a massive club anthem that is of course one of the top vocal trancers that are on circulation at the moment. His brand new mesmerising progressive trancer is called My Way Out and the vocals provided by Cat Martin that she manages to slip under your skin with her delicate and highly emotional voice. The original mix is a floating progressive trancer with bubbly tribalish beats that works perfectly to highlight the vocal and is very different from the usual banging bouncy acid influenced Activa compositions. Pure trance blissfulness that progressive trance djs will hammer for many months particularly during the summer as it has an undeniable balearic touch as well. Sonic Element is on remix duties and by now you are used to get only massive bangers from his hands and he doesn't disappoint us on this top remix as well. Its a version tailor made to bridge the progressive trance choices with the more uplifting ones. Tight production with attention to each single detail with energetic pulsating rhythm and strong melodic layers that guarantee to take you for an uplifting ride that is feel good but bitter sweet as well because of the melancholic esoteric vocals and deep lyrics by Cat Martin. This is what I call Vocal Trance, Love It!
We asked exclusively Cat Martin to tell us about the backstage story of this top track.
Cat Martin: Yes, certainly, I'll tell you some of the back story to the track!
Rob came to me in late 2010 asking if I would like be a part of his second album which he was just starting work on. I had already worked with him on 'They Never Change', a track from his first album in 2009, so I didn't hesitate in working together again as I was really pleased with our first collaboration.
For a few days before recording I had a lyric buzzing round my head "I wish I knew myself in the way I know you", so I tried to make it fit with Rob's instrumental and luckily it did! I then began to add in some other ideas. Actually the main melody of "you're my way out" came from me reversing a vocal sample to see what it sounded like - I got the melody from there and then added the lyrics! I suppose the track is about relying on someone, them being your way out of all the flack that life throws at you.
Writing is very much like that for me, I may have one tiny fragment of any idea that I will develop, but rarely will I write a full song then try to adapt it to an instrumental, unless I am writing my own demos. Quite often I actually write the entire melody and lyrics whilst at the microphone, just improvising. That can create some fun combinations!
The whole process took about four hours from start to finish which is the fastest I have ever completed a vocal in. The final track from Rob arrived a day or two later. As for the Sonic Element remix, I am so happy that people seem to really like it! It's very melodic and the breakdown is quite beautiful. I love what he has done with the track. There is also an IDM/chill-out mix coming too from an artist called Reii, so listen out for that!
Thanks to Cat Martin for her time to reply on this interview.
