Best of 2011 Interview: Jordy Lishious, the simply un-stop-able Dj Producer

Name: Jordy Lishious
Location:Netherlands

With a ‘Dope & Dirty’ state of mind, Jordy Lishious has the power to create music that best could be described as a mixture between heavy weight DJ Fedde Le Grand and ubertalent Hardwell. Topping it all off with his innovative and refreshing sound and you get a fresh blend of a ‘BIG room’ tech-house monster DJ/producer, who is simply un-stop-able.

Interview is written and conducted by Dimitri Kechagias Radio/Club Dj/Music Journalist

Dimitri: Do you consider 2011 as a positive, negative or neutral year for the progress of the Electronic Dance Music scene?

Jordy Lishious: It seems every year is getting better for EDM. With loads of former R&B / Hip-Hop artists taking notice, EDM is bigger than ever before right now.

Dimitri: Do you believe that 2011 was a good , indifferent or bad year for the development of your personal career?

Jordy Lishious : For me it was a good year. I’ve finally played in Ibiza, a long awaited dream. It was in the biggest club in the world, and Tiesto was the person who asked me for it! I had more awesome gigs in Miami, Russia, Estonia & Germany and loads in Holland. Also I slightly adjusted my sound, which feels great!

Dimitri: THE A to Z of the Best of the Year 2011.

a) Best Full Release of the year (original & remixes)
Jordy Lishious : Hardwell – Encoded (incl Dada Life Remix). This may be Hardwell’s biggest track this year, and with Dada Life on the remix you’ve got the ultimate package!

b) Your personal Full release of the year
Jordy Lishious : Jordy LIshious & Mitch Crown – Last Night
The second time I did the official anthem of the Lakedance Festival, held in the Southern part of Holland. Both Original mix & Festival Mix did the trick for me throughout my gigs this year. Mitch’s vocal is stunning as always.

c) Best Single track of the year (only original versions)
Jordy Lishious : Mord Fustang – The Electric Dream. Been playing this from the beginning of the summer, and it’s still in almost all of my sets! Ultimate feel-good banger!

d) Your personal Best Single track of the year
Jordy Lishious: Jordy Lishious – Lump (Revealed Recordings)
This track went into the “bags” of every major jock. From Tiesto to Congorock, from SHM to Avicii, Armin, Hardwell, Marcel Woods, Ferry Corsten, David Guetta etc..

e) Best Remix  of the year
Jordy Lishious : Benny Benassi – Cinema (Skrillex Remix)
Allthough the original is almost unbeatable, Skrillex is almost like a god for me, haha! You can hear so much detail in his tracks, it gives me goosebumps everytime!

f) Best Remix on personal production that you released  in 2011
Jordy Lishious: I’ve finally got the chance to remix one of my alltime favorites, Benjamin Bates’ “The Manimal”. Benjamin did a remix for me in return, which I also played a lot this year. (Raw 2011)

g) Best Producer of the year in your style that you play or any other that you may like
Jordy Lishious : Hardwell. He’s been working his ass off the last few years, so it wasn’t a surprise he entered the DJ Mag at #24. Well deserved!

h) Best New Talent/Big hope for the coming years
Jordy Lishious : My buddy JoeySuki. Awesome guy, but also a great producer. His latest bomb Munster wit Hardwell is just too crazy!

i) Best Remixer  of the year  on personal or others peoples tracks
Jordy Lishious: Peter Horrevorts. If you haven’t heard from this dude yet, you should check him out right away. Really has got his own vibe going on!

j) Best Established  Label of the year(not started in 2011)
Jordy Lishious : Revealed Recordings. Bomb after bomb is getting released!

k) Best Newborn in 2011 label of the year
Jordy Lishious: OWSLA, very electronic, but the sickest tracks are getting released from there!

l) Best dance album and mixed compilation of the year in the style of music that you work with…
Jordy Lishious: Funkagenda’s Funk Farm compilation! Not sure if it’s out yet, but one of my new remixes is on it!

m) Best Music Video of the year(this can be personal/you are involved with or from other artists)
Jordy Lishious : Skrillex – First of the year… Just check it and you know why I gave this answer..

n) Best social network of the year that has been amazing for the promotion of your work
Jordy Lishious : SoundCloud, the best in audio-sharing!

o) Best new software or hardware that was introduced in this year and you recommended it to others.
Jordy Lishious : Komplete 8 by Native Instruments. So happy with that package!

p) Best and worst djing  or production  experience that happened in 2011
Jordy Lishious : Well, both actually happened in the same set, haha! My second gig at Tiesto’s Club Life in Ibiza was simply amazing. So many dedicated party-people, I enjoyed every single second of it. But during that set my USB-drive stopped playing twice, ouch…

q) Best country that you performed this year
Jordy Lishious: Ibiza.

w) Best vocalist in a dance track of the year
Jordy Lishious : Nero – Promises. Simply beautiful..

x) Best magazine or web site that you always check out for music related stuff
(to read reviews/interviews/  and learn about technical equipment)
Jordy Lishious : Future Music! Finally got myself a subscription!

y) Best fan of your music of the year or best crowd in your performance(perhaps you don’t know the name but you can describe when you met or why you consider this person as your best fan of the year)
Jordy Lishious : This is getting a bit cheesy, but the peeps at the Privilege this year was definitely my best crowd! The atmosphere in Ibiza is unreal!

z)Best thing you have done this year in order to support any social movement, charities, or other people that may need your help.
Jordy Lishious : That thing still has to come. Every December one of the biggest radiostations in Holland, 3FM, organizes Serious Request , which I always donate to.

Dimitri: Can you please let us know your plans for 2012 for your djing, productions or label?

Jordy Lishious: Forthcoming year I want to step it up even more production-wise. I just moved my studio to a better location, and I’m positive this will give me more creativity and ideas for new tracks.

Dimitri: On the other side is it possible to tell us the track, album, artist/dj that you believe were the worst of the year and why?

Jordy Lishious : Nah, not gonna say that.. Tbh, I don’t really know what the worst track was last year!

Dimitri: Please give us your wishes for 2012 and your small piece of advice for anyone that reads this interview and aspires to get into music production, djing, or music production in general.

Jordy Lishious : I want to wish everyone a musical 2012, and all the best for the new year. Make sure you always keep following your dreams, even if you almost don’t feel it anymore. I believe in karma and that if you really want it, and you keep working for it, amazing things can happen!
