ALBUM REVIEW: GoldFish - If Summer Was A Sound out on Armada Music

Embodying the quintessential GoldFish experience by blending uplifting chord progressions, cheeky samples and driving beats with masterful songwriting and production, ‘If Summer Was A Sound’ evokes salty sea breezes, beachside sunsets, and the sonic superpower to take the listener to a special time and place in their lives. Drawing inspiration from their love for the ocean as avid surfers, GoldFish masterfully combine their signature saxophone leads, warm pianos and organic acoustic elements with carefully curated electronic beats, crafting a sound that is uniquely their own.
“Today is a proud moment for us as artists and as musicians.” said GoldFish. “This album is not only a creative outlet for our love to create and perform, but a way to capture the essence of our influences and where we love to spend our time - on the beach in San-Diego or at home in Cape Town with our families. Music has the superpower to take listeners to a special time and place in their lives, and this time, it obviously triggers the memories of a wonderful, love-filled summer you can always look back on with a smile.”
True to their reputation as boundary-pushing artists, GoldFish have collaborated with a diverse and impressive lineup of renowned artists that they have met on their travels around the globe. From Australian legend Xavier Rudd and L.A.-based electronic upstarts Laszewo to U.K.-based multi-instrumentalist sensation Youngr and Rio-based duo Cat Dealers, the album features an exceptional range of talent. Staying true to their African roots, the duo also worked with longtime collaborators Sakhile Moleshe and Max Vidima, and other artists include a United Nations of electronic music talent; Malou, Julia Church, Dubdogz, Luisah, The Palms, Bruno Be, Dena Williams, Carstn, Anna Graceman and Keanan Eksteen are all featured across this 22-track offering.
On the collaborative efforts of the album GoldFish said, “It is always a pleasure to work with artists that truly understand our vision and want to bring something different into the mix. These artists become like family which is what this whole album is about – enjoying summer with those nearest and dearest to you.”
‘If Summer Was A Sound’ is a testament to Dom and Dave’s unwavering dedication to their craft, showcasing their mastery in every track, whether it’s downtempo to high-energy house music. With this album, they solidify their position at the pinnacle of their career, captivating their long-time fans and inviting new listeners to experience the magic that is GoldFish. ‘If Summer Was A Sound,’ GoldFish’s sixth album would be it.

To bring the album to life, GoldFish will be taking their acclaimed live show to Europe in October. After kicking things off in Ireland, the pair will perform in London and Amsterdam across three dates ahead of the album’s release.

[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"]GoldFish is one of the most exceptional production and DJ duo from South Africa who finally release the much anticipated album If Summer Was A Sound. The album is magnificent slice of melodic dreamy house tracks with the well known saxophone and organic elements that really shine and make the whole result sounding more like a band and less than an electronic music project. It's the type of tracks that instantly can change your mood and make you feel a little bit happier whenever and wherever you push the play button. So definitely the title describes well the ethos of the album that encapsulates with great melodies, upbeat atmosphere, crazy saxophone riffs and collaboration with outstanding singers including Malou and Julia Church amongst others and great collaborations with artists like Dubdogz and Cat Dealers. You must consume me all the tracks at once non stop and u will find yourself body pumping and ass shaking in your living room or in your car while outside the traffic and delays are chaotic but you stay calm and transported to a tropical sunny holiday resort. An album that electronic, world/ethnic music fans will dig deep straight away. #PureGold Love IT[/content]

About GoldFish

Before changing the Electronic Music game in South Africa as GoldFish, Dominic Peters and David Poole were mild-mannered students by day - that blew the roof off house parties by night. Their trail-blazing live show, which mixed tireless house beats with multiple live instrumental performances earned the attention of a swelling house and electronic music fan base. As their fame grew, so did their scope, scouring obscure sources for unique and cheeky samples that they twisted into endlessly fun hooks and choruses. Stirring African rhythms and Sax melodies into the mix helped Goldfish evolve a truly unique house sound. Their burnished grooves are rooted in pure pop pleasure, hooking even the most cautious listener onto the dancefloor (without next-day regret).

After seven years basing themselves between Cape Town and Ibiza, Dom and Dave have settled in San Diego to concentrate on the burgeoning US Market. A consistent string of chart-topping hits — and a live show that has seen countless festival appearances from Coachella to Glastonbury — has helped GoldFish become one of the most enduring and influential groups in live electronic music.
