REVIEW: Nico Parisi & Gai Barone - Perla out on Bonzai Progressive

Nico Parisi and Gai Barone have joined forces in the studio and came up with the stunningly deep progressively charged 'Perla' which is packed full with four brilliant remixes. The guys have both been on fire lately with their own works, Nico's 'Soulit' gained rave reviews from many quarters while Gai's 'Cartaria' continues to perform well all over. We've seen some exciting partnerships over the years at Bonzai and this one will no doubt be the start of something great with the hope of more to come, watch this space.

We get started with the Original Mix which intros with a punchy kick and some very cool percussions, but the big draw on the intro is the haunting background sounds that will send a chill down your spine. A deep growling bass takes the track further into the progressive depths as those haunting sounds continue. The bass intensifies as the track unfolds with the help of dark pads. The short break leads us directly back into full on mode as this relentless journey reaches its climax. Superb stuff and sure to be a hit with many!

Philthy Chit aka UK based producer Phil Taylor is first up on remix duty. Phil is a very popular choice for remixing as he has the Midas touch when it comes to reworking original tracks with his own brand of the darker side of progressive. That's exactly what we get here. The intro gets the grooves flowing with a great breaks type beat along with cool percussive elements and shored up with a stuttering bass. Haunting soundscapes stay true to the original as the track gathers pace with the introduction of a nice chunky kick and crispy hat combi. The track builds and builds and climax with a superb vocal sample and a full on gritty vibe that takes us through to the end. Great stuff yet again from Phil, not to be missed. Dutch DJ, producer and Bonzai regular

Thorin delivers another stunning remix. Thorin has had a whole raft of top class cuts in recent times and is always ready to step up to the remix plate. His last outing on Bonzai Progressive, 'Hallucinogen' was very well received indeed and since then he has been responsible for many fantastic remixes, including this one. The track intros with a strong thumping kick and consistent arp sequence and backed up with a round of rhythmic percussions. Deep droning bass pads sweep throughout the track and add an air of intensity to the sound. The main bass ploughs right through the track and gives it that wonderful progressive edge we love. Cool stabby synths build their way up to the break where we descend into the abyss before being slammed right back into the main groove with a vengeance. Absolute stomper of a track with epic qualities that will get a lot of attention.

Rise And Fall aka Russian DJ and producer Anton Vishniakov is up next with his remix. Recently we saw Rise and Falls' 'Imagination' get a lot of attention just like his previous outings. He has a unique progressive style that really gets under your skin and here he holds no bounds as we are treated to a stunning display of craftsmanship. A very understated intro sets us off as a simple kick is joined by distant hats and some fantastic percussions. The backdrop to this is a truly mesmerizing sequence of sinister sounding pads and a heartbeat type bass sound. All these sounds blend perfectly as the main track gets into full swing with the addition of chunky kick and a deep, pulsing bass. As the layers build you get locked in to this sound with its tough, gritty edge. You will not want this to end, a definite must for the darker sets for sure!

Belarusian Dmitry Molosh makes his Bonzai debut with a wonderful remix. Dmitry is no stranger to the scene as he has released a huge amount of tracks across many labels. He is a DJ and producer who built up huge respect from his peers as he worked his way around the circuit having played in lots of small venues which ultimately led to the bigger clubs. His desire for progressive house drew him to production where he has built up a large portfolio of works and got him in touch with other worldwide talents. Here, on the remix the track intros with a smooth ubiquitous vibe as well rounded kicks and sharp hats combine with a cool arp sequence. Warm pads come through alongside sweet melodic strings before an absolutely stunning bassline takes over. A beautifully melancholic synth contrasts well with the somewhat summery bassline to great effect. A stomper of a track that will be perfect fodder for those late night terrace sessions!

Dimitri Kechagias review: Bonzai Progressive returns with another future classic that will be played a lot in the coming months.
