REVIEW: Martin Solveig - The Night Out incl. Smash Episode #4 on Kontor

When Martin Solveig’s live performance of ‘The Night Out’ at Radio 1’s celebration of Pete Tong’s 20 years at the station prompted the veteran disc jockey to ask for a copy pronto, it gave a clear indicator that the record - written, produced and performed by Solveig – had a very bright future.

Several months on, and having contributed heavily on Madonna’s latest studio album, ‘MDNA’ – including the lead single ‘Give Me All Your Luvin’ featuring Nicki Minaj and MIA – Solveig’s focus returns once again to his ‘SMASH’ project. ‘The Night Out’ E.P is packed to the seams with a raft of remixes and bonus material that’ll cater to all fans, both new and old.

The A-Trak remix set the ball rolling having topped the Hype Machine as well as receiving full support from both Annie Mac and Pete Tong over recent weeks.  Fellow Frenchman and prodigy du jour Madeon throws his sublime wizardry into the pot to bolster a package of already superb mixes that has, as the A-Trak mix did - topped the Hype Machine! Always keen to exploit up and coming talent, Solveig also welcomes in newcomers TheFatRat for what will be a firm favourite in big arenas, as well as new duo Maison & Dragen.

Martin’s own take on A-trak’s remix makes for great aural pleasure, and then comes the inclusion of ‘Can’t Stop’ into the package, providing another slab of pure pop fun from Martin Solveig & Dragonette. Throw in a truly awesome instrumental version of Ready 2 Go (Initial SHE version), a Don Diablo take on ‘Hello’ with the rapper iSH (Why Are We Whispering remix) AND finally the Les Bros remix of ‘Big in Japan’ and the realisation will dawn that this is indeed one hell of an E.P.

As with every release from ‘SMASH’ there’ll be a brand new episode of the hilarious video series featuring everyone’s favourite Manageur Lafaille, picking up the story where they last left it in Episode 4, this time including a few cameos along the way. The series, which has so far amassed over 100 million views, is widely regarded as the best of its kind, and this new outing will be no exception!

Released in conjunction with his next hit single “The Night Out” which debuted on April 2nd globally, this new installment sees Martin, with the help of trusty and, some would say, legendary manageur Lafaille finally beginning to win over the heart of his longtime love, SHE. Featuring cameos from the likes of A-Trak, Laidback Luke, Sidney Samson, Madeon, Porter Robinson, Zedd and Dillon Francis– some of whom feature on the EP – this episode CANNOT BE MISSED!

Having originally lost out to Gael Monfils in the battle for SHE months ago, the quest begins in earnest again as Martin and Lafaille create a special movie premiere for their first date. As with anything Martin’s manageur touches, things do not go to plan… but with the help of scooters, boats and the Parisian scenery, can her heart be won over by the end of their night out?

‘The Night Out’ E.P is out NOW, please check iTunes in your territory. It is available for pre-order in the UK.

Dimitri Kechagias review: The Night Out is currently number 1 in my weekly radio show Flux House Top 20. The reason is pretty obvious of course. We deal with another big anthem that will dominate clubs, festivals and radio stations for the summer season. The remix package is extensive and each version caters for different styles in EDM. First of all A-Trak proves why he is one of the hottest producer at the moment. His version adds old school disco feel to it with electro house influences as well. Groovy and feel good with strong melody in the breakdown and  rocking sharp basslines for the rougher floors. Madeon Remix is the more pop orientated perfect to get playlisted in the daytime radio and bring smiles whenever will be played. My favourite remix is by Maison and Dragen who really produce a very large epic prog house version that is euphoric, energetic and peak time from start to finish. Lastly TheFatRat Remix is a more groovy affair that includes electro and dirty dutch influences as well. Lovely tune that makes you to get out for an unforgettable Night Out! ! Love IT!
