1-Dimitris: 2023 just started but it will be cool to let us know how was 2022 for your career. Let us know about achievements or goals achieved that you are proud of.

DIM3NSION: Hello Dimitris. First of all, many thanks for the interview. I'm happy to come back to Flux BPM Online!

Last year it was a transition year for me as an artist. It was time to reorganize my career and start again with solid records. I have not had as many records as I would love to but I´ve cooked a lot of the ones have been released on the beginning of the year!

Maybe my favourite of last year it was 'Eunoia', it brings again the sound I know for!

2-Dimitris: Do you have already some concrete plans for 2023 and if you are allowed to announce them to our readers please tell us what you are preparing for us in the coming months regarding releases and performances in gigs/festivals.

DIM3NSION: My plan for this 2023 is just create and release as many music as I can and keep working hard to back on the road soon again. I´m very happy at the moment signing on the biggest trance labels and there is still lot of things to come. I only can say that a lot of new releases on Armada will come after 'Funktionlust', a big one on Coldharbour and more!

3-Dimitris: It would be fantastic to talk about Funktionlust that is out now on FSOE. Please tell us how this track came about and what was the idea behind it.

DIM3NSION: 'Funktionlust' is a very special track for me. This is the type of trance records that made me fall in love with this genre. Being able to produce mines now and get signed on an iconic label such as FSOE is beautiful. The idea was have fun in the studio and keep the trance music I know for alive. I´m very thankful to FSOE for bring it to the light!

4-Dimitris: How long it took you to produce it and can u describe the production process in simple steps?

DIM3NSION: It depends of the song. For example for Funktionlust everything started on the breakdown looking for those soundscapes, that ambient pads and sounds and composing a melody that blow the minds. Once I got it, then its all about the work on the sound design until get the right kick, the right basslines and percussions and make all fit together. I think it took like a month to create this track.

Normally for me, it took a month to compose, produce an finish the tracks. But I'm never working on just one track, I always have 4 or 5 in the working so that keep me on a great loop to don´t get stuck on one sigle idea and suddenly, I find I have another 4 or 5 tracks done! That´s my process.

5-Dimitris: Did you had any particular difficulties accomplishing that particular track or any specific production challenges.

DIM3NSION: It always depends. My strength is clearly the composition, create a melody, a piano line, its very easy for me and I´m very lucky for have this talent. The technical part is my weakness. It takes longer for me but I don't struggle a lot. On some way or other, I´m always able to go where I want to go. Experience is also very valuable. Nowadays I feel much much better producer than just few years ago due of all the tracks I always have in the making for my career, but also in other styles for other clients as ghost producer. This enriches you a lot.

6- Dimitris: Which music composition software or hardware you prefer and why? What is your opinion of the latest movement to produce music with more analogue equipment and with less or without any digital software?

DIM3NSION: I have been almost 20 years on FL Studio and I´m still working with this software. I feel very comfortable on it, I can work fast and I´m happy with FL. As virtual instruments, my favourite ones are Nexus, Spire, Serum and Massive!

The analogue movement is very cool. That type of sounds is rich and I enjoy a lot. Analogue equipment is very expensive but lucky on its software version you can find cool stuff like Diva or Repro. I use a lot for my other alias 'Benner'.

7-Dimitris: Do you prefer instrumental dance tracks or you adore vocals? Please explain to us your position and if in your latest production you have vocals tell us how did you choose the specific singer and if it was great to work with her/him?

DIM3NSION: I have been always with the instrumental tracks because are more easy to produce, finish and release. But with vocal tracks your reach can be much much bigger. People in general prefer vocal tracks against instrumental because it transmits more feelings, it tell you an story and a good vocal always sounds fantastic. Until now, I´ve always produced more instrumental because the process or hire a vocal can be very long until the singer write the lyrics, compose the melody for the lyrics, record the vocals and the mixdown/master is approved. Also, it depends of the singer but it can be very very expensive. I have never been able to work with a very famous singer but had the chance to collab with Charlenne (from my track with Ferry Corsten - Safe With Me) and it was fantastic. She is a cool girl, sings like the angles and is fast. Was a very cool experience!

8-Dimitris: If you really like to produce vocal tracks which vocalist/singer or lyricist on electronic dance music you aspire to work with?

DIM3NSION: I don´t have any particular vocalist in mind to be honest. If I like the voice, I would love to work with!

9-Dimitris: Do you believe that artwork on your latest track is good and do you believe that artwork can attract listeners or record buyers? Can you mention the best artwork of a track ever released?

DIM3NSION: Of course yes! The artwork is a very special part of the release. When you´re browsing through Spotify, Beatport or just scrolling your Instagram timeline and there is an artwork beautiful, colorful and with a good design it will call your attention immediately, it will make you more curious about the music. For me both things go hand in hand. My favourite artwork maybe it was for my track Astronauts and Celeste.

10-Dimitris: In which label your latest release will be? Tell us your opinion about that particular label and your connection with them.

DIM3NSION: At this right moment, the last one was 'Funktionlust' on FSOE. My goals as an artist are to get a regular sign on Armind and Anjunabeats. Have been always my favourite record labels!

11-Dimitris: Do you have your own record label? if yes tell us when did you set it up, the reasons behind this decision and your top 3 releases on the label so far plus 2 or 3 releases that we should look after from your label.

DIM3NSION: I still don´t have my own record label but its on my plans for 2024. So I will let you know about my favourites releases on it next year! :)

12-Dimitris: Are you planning to complete an album or mix compilation soon? if yes please give us all the details about regarding tracks and how will look and sound like?

DIM3NSION: An album is something that its also on my mind but I don´t feel is the right time now. I need to be regular again with my releases as I am now, back on the road with gigs and after that, will be a moment for think on making an album. Its defo on my plans because an album is the maximum expression for an artist. It gives you freedom to create anything you want.

13-Dimitris:How much time do you spend promoting yourself in your social media and you see this as essential tool for self promotion and getting bookings too? Which social media is the one that seems to work better for you?

DIM3NSION: Cool question! I think is the most important tool nowadays to have a successful career. In the past your productions were your best marketing tool, it was the 90% of the success in your career. Nowadays, I would say its 60% social media, 40% productions. We can like less or more, but I feel like that. My favorite social media is Instagram.

14-Dimitris: Do you have your own radio show/podcast/twitch stream or Vlog(video blog)? If yes please give us a comment about it and how long it take you to prepare for it and if you are always excited to produce it?

DIM3NSION: Yes. I have a weekly radioshow called DIM3NSION Selection which airs every Friday from 20h to 21h CET on Di.fm/trance and it´s online from 21h CET every Friday on Youtube and Soundcloud.

Its very cool to prepare, select the tracks, mix it and share with the fans. I enjoy a lot and its my way to discover new music and get inspired. Sometimes I would prefer spend that time on creating music haha. But is cool for your visibility, support other artists and discover new music. Love it!

If there is anyone around here who would love to see how I select and mix the show, I´ve recorded an exclusive video for my Patreon channel where I explain all the process. So please, check it out my profile on patreon.com/dim3nsion, support is appreciated! :)

15-Dimitris: From the gigs/festival performances confirmed so far for 2023 in which ones are you most excited to perform and why?

DIM3NSION: Sadly I don´t have any gigs for this 2023 at this moment. Working hard to reverse the situation but this is what it is right now!

16-Dimitris: Please share your most funny and most serious incident that happen to you during your DJ performance?

DIM3NSION: One day I was playing in Ibiza and the music was playing on my headphones and monitors but not in the speakers for the crowd. It was funny as well as embarrassing because I was dancing and enjoying meanwhile the crowd could not hear anything haha!

17-Dimitris: Are you enjoying to visit music conferences and do you have any plans to attend any of them in 2023:

DIM3NSION: Yes, its always cool to be there and stay visible. I will go to ADE this year 100%!

18-Dimitris: Do you have an agent that organize your performances and gigs or are you taking care of them? If you do have one agency please tell us what is so special and you work with them.

DIM3NSION: I was working with Schulz Music Group for America gigs and Assured for the rest of the world but when the covid arrived, everything stops for me. It was time to start from zero, something I can´t change and its not in my mind so its time to head down and work hard to be out there again soon!

19-Dimitris: Please note for all the new talents that read this interview to get some inspiration from you any technical tips in relation to your DJing or music productions. Also any piece of personal or music business' advice that has helped you to progress even further and is worth telling to the new upcoming talents.

DIM3NSION: The best advice I can give is being honest with yourself 100%. Ask yourself what is what you love to do and go for it. If you want to be a DJ, you must to be able to have your productions. If you don´t have talent for that, then you need to invest on someone who can produce your ideas but music is still very important to get recognize and differentiate yourself from others. Also take care of your social media and your content.

But the most important knowledge there is not still any magic button for music production, you need to invest a lot of time to be successful, here is the importance of being honest with yourself. If you dont have to find the patience for this but you love DJing, then, you need to find someone to help you!

20-Dimitris: Many DJs who are producers too they offer online masterclasses or teach to music production courses. If you are offering any of these services please tell us about it.

DIM3NSION: This is cool! Of course I´m always working with other artists helping with their masters/mixdowns, making full productions for others, helping to finalize records where they feel stuck... But also I´m doing 1 to 1 lessons with aspiring producers but also with producers who still struggling with part of the process. Another part of my job is that I´m always helping with advices about how to send a demo, release strategies, or anything related with their career. If I can help, you will find me there.

So please, if there is anyone who need any of this services get in touch through any of my social media or my email.

Also, I recently created a Patreon account as mentioned above where I´m giving in advance my releases, upload exclusive content like vide reviews of my tracks, sample packs, music productions videos and more things and in ex-change, with your subscription you help with my career. You can check it out on Patreon.com/dim3nsion

21-Dimitris: Is there a club classic that you would like to remix or rework in 2023? Do you attempt often to do your own bootlegs of classics?

DIM3NSION: Solarstone - Seven Cities! Sometimes I do some bootlegs of course, but I keep it for my dj sets.

22-Dimitris: Vinyl sales are rising and there is strong demand for vinyl releases? What is the reason behind that trend and do you see it as a positive development?

DIM3NSION: I think that people is tired of the digital copies and things that you can touch. Having a vinyl at your home, listen to the music inside but also can be able to watch the artwork, touch it, smell it... that's completely a different experience.

23-Dimitris: Many artist right now attempt to come closer to their fan base and use the meta verse in order to offer exclusive content to their most dedicated followers. Do you have any plans to do the same and what is your opinion about this plan to grow on metaverse?

DIM3NSION: Not for now... I´m always trying to be close to my fans though social media, stories and etc. But I´m still not familiar with the metaverse.

24-Dimitris: Do you believe that music genres or styles are still relevant today? What is your opinion about hybrids and artists attempting to mix influences from various genres in their tracks?

DIM3NSION: If I like the track, I like the track, doesn't matter which genre it is. One of the things I love from trance the most is that is a mix of various genres. You can make a very cool DJ set from 123 bpm to 138 bpm and still is trance music.

25-Dimitris: Finally tell us if you are able to make a leaving out of your music business (DJ/producer/label owner/teaching or mastering tracks) and if not what other jobs are you doing in order to make a decent leaving?

DIM3NSION: I feel luck because I am. Since covid I´ve lost gigs but I´ve put more effort on other music services like ghost producing, mixdown and arrangements, mastering or consulting. The Patreon channel helps as well but still, my goal are getting gigs again!

Dimitris: Your message & wishes for Flux Bpm Online readers.

DIM3NSION: Just want to thank you again Dimitris for the work you do for the music and specially the trance scene and of course for give me the chance to sit down here to talk with all the reader of the site. Thanks!

Many thanks to DIM3NSION for finding the time to answer this interview with so much detail.

Thanks to team  FSOE for arranging this interview.
