REVIEW: Relay & Front - Farewell Letter/Farseer out on Rub A Duck/Black Hole

1. Farewell Letter
2. Farseer

Relay & Front drop their new single on the Rub A Duck imprint, featuring the two titles “Farewell Letter” and “Farseer”.

Relay & Front, two producers from Finland and Estonia, teamed up in summer 2011 when they were both 19 years of age. Initially meeting regularly online, they eventually started working together after Front successfully enticed Relay into the world of drum ‘n’ bass. Their style, often described as liquid drum ‘n’ bass, has a lot in common with material from known acts like Makoto, Camo & Crooked and Netsky. The first title of this new single package, “Farewell Letter”, recently appeared on the soon to be released Snow Dance 001 compilation and has everything in it that marks their own sound, with live guitar and piano. The arrangement is elaborate and showcases an exciting combination of driving basslines, slightly mysterious piano programming and a merciless hammering breakbeat. Once the break sets in, the guys fade to a superb guitar lick that could have been played by The Cure; a given that adds that extra bit of atmosphere to the entire song. Perfect for the underground live sets.

The second title, “Farseer”, focuses a bit more on the harder side of Relay & Front’s sound. Once again our Baltic friends took their time to write an attractive arrangement for their synth programming, combined with swirly vocal samples. The chopped up drum fills make for a nice, rough edge to the end result, all the while staying close to the all over mystical feel of the entire production. It is clear that Relay & Front know how to deliver well prepared and ever so musical backing tracks with real instruments for today’s drum ‘n’ bass dance floors. Taylor made material for all DJs and soon to be found in a live set near you!

Dimitri Kechagias review: One of the hottest new imprints out there that requires to check it out for each single release is  Black Hole's newest member Rub A Duck. If you love dubstep or sharps drums and crystal clear bass then you will be hooked with this label ability to  discover  brand new talents and give them the exposure that they need to grow such as Wetdog. The forthcoming release  by Relay & Front is simply irresistable and includes the top tracks Farewell Letter and Farseer. I love that style of music cause simply travel your mind to various places all over the world. It is  like the water coming down from the mountains  to the sea and passing through various forests and countries. Whenever you need some relaxation those tracks will be there for you to offer you that mind altering  experience and I'm sure that you will catch yourself  unintentionally pressing the repeat mode  listening  to them countless times  Farewell Letter is characterised from its balearic quitar riff in the breakdown and great little piano riffs along with melodramatic warm strings.Farseer is much more darker with frightening strings, deep basslines, jazzy undertones  and vocal samples that   build a fragile world of sounds and create a turnmoil of emotions. Two travelling soothing relaxing tracks perfect to give the perfect liquid sound for dnb floors but can be easily used for the soundtrack of a movie or tv series and  as sound beds for tv documentaries for extreme sports like Skiing and snowboarding.
