  • Background

Let's start with your journey into the world of electronic dance music. Understanding your roots and early influences helps us connect with the artist behind the sound.

Dimitris: How did your journey into the electronic dance music (EDM) scene begin, and what were the key influences that shaped your style?

PRAISE(BR): I've been involved with music for longer than I've been alive. This connection was born with me — my father was a radio host in the '80s and '90s, and my uncle was an active DJ throughout the '90s and 2000s. I grew up surrounded by records, gear, and stories from the dancefloor. Around 2005, I started working with my uncle in his small sound company. I would set up equipment, carry speakers and cables, and by closely observing everything, I learned the basics of DJing through hands-on experience.

That early exposure shaped my relationship with music — built on technique, respect, and, above all, passion. Over time, I went deeper, studying, playing at events, experimenting with different styles until I found my true form of expression in progressive house.

PRAISE is the result of that entire journey — years of dedication, experimentation, and involvement in various musical projects. It’s my most personal endeavor, where I aim to create immersive atmospheres and deep melodies that truly move those who listen.

From the very beginning, I’ve always looked for artists who genuinely inspired me. Guy J was, without a doubt, my biggest influence — his musicality, atmospheric depth, and emotional sensitivity showed me what was truly possible within progressive house. He was the initial spark.

As I kept exploring, I discovered other artists who deeply impacted me. DJ Ruby, a true genius in crafting musical narratives and conducting powerful sets. Paul Thomas not only became a major inspiration but was also the one who pushed me to study and produce seriously. My desire to release music on his label made me grow both technically and artistically.

Here in Brazil, I was fortunate to discover the work of Tonaco — in my opinion, one of the finest producers today, not just in the national scene, but worldwide. The way he constructs his tracks and channels emotion is something that constantly inspires me.

These artists were fundamental in shaping my sound and artistic identity. Each of them left a mark on what I’ve been building through the PRAISE project.

Dimitris: What personal values or life philosophies do you carry that also reflect in your music?

PRAISE(BR): Focused, honest, and loyal — that’s how I choose to live and work. I believe in setting goals and doing everything I can to achieve them. I always strive to be a good person, and I try to reflect that in everything I do through my music and my work.

Dimitris: How has your understanding of the electronic music culture changed from when you started to where you are now?

PRAISE(BR): When I first got into electronic music, my focus was mostly on the technical side — learning how to mix, understanding the gear, and feeling the energy of the dancefloor. It was very instinctive and raw. Over time, I began to realize that electronic music is much more than just beats and drops — it's a powerful cultural movement that connects people, tells stories, and creates deep emotional experiences.

Today, I see electronic music as a form of art that blends creativity, community, and technology. I've come to understand the importance of building a narrative through a set or a track, the responsibility of reading a crowd, and the value of contributing something meaningful to the scene. I also see how much respect and history are behind the culture — from underground movements to legendary clubs and labels that shaped everything we experience today.

It’s no longer just about playing music; it’s about building a legacy, respecting the roots, and constantly evolving as an artist and human being.

Dimitris: Which piece of music equipment or software can you not live without, and why?

PRAISE(BR): Ableton live and Ableton Push 2

This combination of software and hardware gives me the freedom to explore new possibilities and express my emotions in a genuine way through music.

  • Current Projects:

Now that we know a bit about your background, we'd love to hear about what you're working on right now. Your current projects offer a glimpse into your creative process and artistic evolution.

Dimitris: What inspired the creation of your latest EP Severus/Tornado on UV NOIR, and how does it reflect your current artistic vision?

PRAISE(BR): Lately, I’ve been seeking inspiration from major labels, setting them as goals and working and studying to reach them. This focus on labels I aspire to release with has given me a clearer vision, as well as improved my sound, my workflow, and the way I finalize each track.

Dimitris: Could you describe your current approach to music production and how it has evolved over the years?

PRAISE(BR): My approach to music production has evolved significantly over the years. When I first started, I was focused mostly on experimenting with different sounds and techniques, trying to find my own style. The process was more instinctive, driven by pure curiosity and passion. As I gained more experience, I began to pay closer attention to the details — sound design, arrangement, and the emotional journey of a track.

Now, my approach is much more methodical. I’ve developed a routine that blends creativity with technical precision. I start with a clear vision for the track but leave room for spontaneous moments that can evolve naturally. I pay a lot of attention to creating immersive atmospheres and deep, emotional melodies. I also take the time to refine the small details — everything from the sound of the bass to the nuances in the percussion.

I’d say the biggest shift in my approach is how much I’ve learned to trust the process. In the early days, I was more focused on the end result, but now I enjoy the journey of creating and letting the music come to life in its own time. It’s about balance — being patient, while also pushing myself to experiment and explore new ideas.

Dimitris: What are some of the challenges you face when producing music, and how do you overcome them?

PRAISE(BR): One of the biggest challenges I face when producing music is staying focused during long sessions. Sometimes, I find myself getting lost in the details or struggling to make decisions on the direction of a track. It can be frustrating when things aren't coming together as quickly as I imagined, or when I get stuck on a particular section of a track. To overcome this, I’ve learned to take breaks and step away from the music for a while. Giving myself that distance helps me return with a clearer mind and fresh perspective.

Another challenge is maintaining creativity while balancing the technical side of production. In the past, I would sometimes get bogged down in the technical aspects, which would slow down my creative flow. To combat this, I’ve worked on simplifying my setup and sticking to tools and techniques that I’m comfortable with. This way, I can focus more on the creative process and not get overwhelmed by unnecessary complexity.

Finally, the pressure of deadlines or expectations can sometimes weigh on me, especially with upcoming releases. It’s easy to doubt myself or feel that I need to meet certain standards. But over the years, I’ve learned to trust my instincts and focus on producing music that feels true to me. If I’m being honest with myself, the best music always comes when I’m not overthinking it and allowing the creativity to flow naturally.

Dimitris: How do you stay motivated and creatively inspired amidst the fast-paced nature of the EDM scene?

PRAISE(BR): I stay motivated and creatively inspired by pursuing my dream — to explore the world through music, meet people, experience different cultures and places, and share my music with everyone. The idea of connecting with new audiences and bringing my sound to diverse environments keeps me focused and excited to create.

  • Future Plans:

Dimitris: Looking ahead, we're curious about your aspirations. What exciting plans and ambitions are on the horizon for you?

PRAISE(BR): Looking ahead, I hope to release again with UV, on the main label, and also to release with all the labels I admire for their work and the sound they represent. My ambition is to one day be recognized as a great artist known for quality music, to be remembered for my sound, and to spread my music across the world.

Dimitris: What are your future plans in terms of new releases, collaborations, or live performances?

PRAISE(BR): I have some collaborations coming out with a few friends from Brazil, along with releases scheduled on major progressive house labels later this year. I also have performances lined up at major events for July and August, and I’m looking forward to returning to D-EDGE, which, for me, has an incredible stage.

Dimitris: How do you incorporate new trends or technologies in your music while maintaining your unique sound?

PRAISE(BR): I always try to stay updated with new trends and technologies, but the most important thing for me is ensuring that, even with these innovations, my sound remains unique and true to my identity. Whenever something new comes up, like new tools or production techniques, I like to experiment and see how it can complement what I already do, without losing my essence.

For example, when I started using new automation tools or plugins, I made sure to integrate these innovations in a way that didn’t change my style, but rather enriched it. Sometimes, technology opens up new creative possibilities, but the key is knowing how to use it to enhance the atmosphere and emotion I want to convey in my music, without losing the connection to what I consider essential in my sound.

I believe that by experimenting with new technologies, I can evolve as an artist, but always keeping what sets me apart and ensuring that each release is a true expression of my musical journey.

Dimitris: What message would you like to share with your fans and the broader EDM community about your journey and vision?

PRAISE(BR): I’d like to tell my fans and the broader EDM community to appreciate your favorite artists, reach out to them, and let them know how much you love their music. Sometimes, as artists, we don’t always feel good about our work or may not love our music as much, and hearing from you can really lift our spirits.

Also, always spread love and kindness to others — the world needs it.

  • Music Industry & Technology:

The music industry is constantly evolving, influenced by technology and cultural shifts. Let's dive into your thoughts on these changes and how they impact your work.

Dimitris: How do you see the current state of the electronic music industry, and what changes would you like to see?

PRAISE(BR): I see the electronic music industry in a moment of great evolution and innovation. Access to music production has never been easier, which has opened up space for many new talents and diversified styles. However, I also see challenges, such as content saturation, lack of study from some artists, and the pressure to adapt to fast-consumption trends, which can make the focus on quality and authenticity be lost.

I would like to see more value placed on music and artists at all levels of the industry. I believe it’s essential for labels, festivals, and streaming platforms to support artists more, not only in terms of exposure but also financially. This would help ensure that the quality of music remains a priority and that artists can continue to express themselves genuinely.

Dimitris: How do you feel about the shift towards streaming platforms for music consumption—do you think it's beneficial for artists?

PRAISE(BR): The shift to streaming platforms has certainly brought a significant transformation in the way we consume music. For artists, streaming platforms offer tremendous exposure, allowing their music to reach a global audience with an ease never seen before. This is extremely positive, as it provides new opportunities for emerging and independent artists who previously would have had difficulties reaching a larger audience.

  • Personal Insights:

To wrap things up, we'd love to get a glimpse into your personal life and philosophy. These insights help us understand the person behind the music.

Dimitris: How do you maintain a balance between your personal life and your music career?

PRAISE(BR): This is a big challenge for me, as I spend most of my day in the studio, producing, giving lessons, or working on mix and master. However, I try to make the most of weekends when I don’t have events to spend time with my family, whether it's having lunch together or going for outings. Also, on weekend nights without events, I try to hang out with friends, have a barbecue, and relax a bit.

Dimitris: What advice would you give to aspiring DJs and producers looking to make their mark in the industry?

PRAISE(BR): Study, knowledge will always be your greatest wealth. Try to understand what you're doing so you can do it right, and with that, the rewards will come naturally. Don’t be afraid to take risks, happiness may be on the other side of fear. Focus and determination make everything achievable.

  • DJ-Specific Insights: For Producers Who Spin the Decks

While many electronic music producers focus solely on studio work, some bring their sound to life through dynamic DJ performances. This section is tailored specifically for producers who are also DJs, highlighting the unique blend of skills and experiences that come with managing both roles.

Dimitris: What inspired you to transition from producing to DJing, or did both passions develop simultaneously?

PRAISE(BR): Actually, I started DJing long before producing. I learned to produce a bit late; I didn’t have a computer or the means to get one. When I was finally able to buy one, I started studying and learning about production in 2011.

Dimitris: Can you walk us through your DJing process—from track selection to live mixing? How do you curate a set that resonates with different audiences?

PRAISE(BR): My DJing process starts with early preparation, where I select tracks based on the type of event and the energy I want to convey to the audience. I usually choose songs that align with the vibe of the night, but I also try to diversify the set to keep the energy flowing and create memorable moments. When curating the playlist, I try to balance well-known tracks with more exclusive ones, so the audience has a unique experience while still connecting with familiar moments.

During the live set, my focus is on feeling the energy of the crowd and adapting to it. Each place and each show has its own vibe, and it’s important to read the crowd to adjust the track selection and transitions. Sometimes, the audience responds really well to a track, and the energy builds up, which gives me the chance to explore heavier or more melodic tunes. Live mixing is a game of sensations – it’s where technique and intuition come into play.

I believe a successful set isn’t just about the music but how you create a connection with the audience. Curating a set is very much about how you perceive the energy of the crowd and how you manage to transition between high and low moments without losing the rhythm. The interaction between the DJ and the audience is essential, and often the best performances come from the spontaneous connection created in the moment.

Dimitris: What are some essential DJ techniques you’ve mastered over the years, and how have they evolved with emerging technologies?

PRAISE(BR): One of the essential DJ techniques I've mastered over the years is mixing. I've always enjoyed long, engaging mixes. Over time, with the advancement of technology, mixing has become easier, allowing for more creative transitions and the ability to experiment with effects. Today, using effects on the mixer while mixing has become much easier and more immersive, allowing me to play with the sound in a way that keeps the set dynamic and captivating.

  • Mixing Styles and Techniques:

Dimitris: Which mixing style do you prefer—long transitions, quick cuts, harmonic mixing, or another technique? How do you decide which style suits a particular set?

PRAISE(BR): I prefer long transitions because I believe they help create a more immersive and engaging atmosphere. With longer transitions, you can move smoothly from one track to another, creating a narrative in the set. This style also allows me to play with the energy build-up, going from softer to more intense moments without abrupt breaks.

However, I also adapt my style depending on the type of event and the crowd's energy. In some situations, where the dancefloor demands something more energetic or dynamic, I use quick cuts or harmonic mixing to keep the vibe high and the crowd engaged.

I always try to feel the energy of the moment and the crowd to decide which mixing style to use. Sometimes, a smoother transition is what the moment calls for, while other times, a quick cut might be the right choice to make an impact. It all depends on how the set is evolving and the interaction with the crowd.

Dimitris: Do you prefer beatmatching manually or using sync features? How do these choices impact your creative flow during performances?

PRAISE(BR): I prefer beatmatching manually. I like to use the pitch more than the jog, as I feel it gives me more control over the sound and allows me to be more creative with transitions. I believe that by doing it manually, I can adjust the tracks with more precision and tailor the set to the energy of the moment.

Honestly, I've never learned to use the sync feature. I'm even a bit afraid to press the button and risk causing an issue during a performance. For me, manual beatmatching is still the most authentic way to transition between tracks, and I believe it's part of the experience I want to create for the audience.

Dimitris: How do you seamlessly blend different genres or tempos within a set to keep the energy consistent and engaging?

PRAISE(BR): To seamlessly blend different genres or tempos within a set, I believe it's all about choosing the right moments to introduce variations. Sometimes, a track slightly outside the main genre can fit perfectly at a specific point in the performance, creating a memorable moment for the crowd. This can be done by playing with transitional elements like effects, EQ, and the overall energy of the track.

The key is to maintain emotional consistency and flow in the set, even when changing styles or tempos. I always try to feel the crowd's energy and use these genre or tempo shifts as a way to surprise and keep the interest, without losing the connection to the vibe I’ve established up to that point.

The most important thing is not to force the transition but to let it happen naturally, without losing the sense of continuity in the performance.

  • Unforgettable Sets:

Dimitris: Have you ever been inspired or influenced by another DJ’s set that left a lasting impact on your approach to performances? If so, could you share that experience?

PRAISE(BR): Absolutely. I've always been passionate about Guy J's sets — his technique, the fluidity, and his sound truly intrigue me. He has a unique way of telling stories through music that continues to inspire me deeply. Another unforgettable experience was when I had the chance to share the stage with H.O.S.H. Honestly, it was the best set I've ever witnessed in my life. The connection he built with the crowd, the energy, and the way he crafted his musical journey completely changed my perspective on what it means to deliver a truly memorable performance.

  • Crowd Engagement Strategies:

Dimitris: What cues do you look for in the crowd to gauge their energy and adjust your set accordingly?

PRAISE(BR): I focus on the people who are really surrendering to the moment on the dancefloor — the ones fully immersed in the music. I pay close attention to what captures their energy the most: which tracks, what kind of sounds, and how they react to different elements. That gives me the direction I need to adjust the flow and keep the connection strong throughout the set.

Dimitris: How do you create a unique connection with the audience beyond just playing tracks—do you use visuals, spontaneous track selections, or interact directly with the crowd?

PRAISE(BR): I’m not the most performative DJ on stage, but I always aim to deliver the highest quality in my sets — from the sound to the precision of the mix. My focus is on reading the crowd and understanding the energy of the dancefloor so I can give them the right sound at the right moment. For me, the true connection comes through the music itself, when it creates a lasting and meaningful experience for everyone there.

Dimitris: How do you handle moments when the crowd’s energy dips? What strategies do you employ to reignite the vibe?

PRAISE(BR): When the crowd’s energy dips, I take it as a signal to shift direction. I try not to force anything — instead, I look for a track that can subtly reset the mood, often with a deeper groove or a surprising element that catches their attention again. Sometimes it's about creating tension, pulling back just enough to make the next drop or transition feel even more powerful. It’s all about staying connected with the moment and trusting the journey I’m building with them.

  • Technical Preferences:

Dimitris: What DJ equipment or software do you consider indispensable, and why does it hold such significance in your performances?

PRAISE(BR): For me, having at least three CDJs is essential. It allows my performance to be much more dynamic and immersive. With three decks, I can layer sounds, create smoother transitions, and build more complex narratives in my sets. It gives me the flexibility to truly shape the energy on the dancefloor — that’s why it’s indispensable for me.

  • Balancing Production and Performance:

Dimitris: How do you manage the creative balance between producing new tracks in the studio and preparing for high-energy DJ gigs?

PRAISE(BR): That’s actually a challenge for me. I tend to get anxious before shows, and that often affects my creativity in the studio. When gigs are coming up, I’m usually less productive creatively. So what I do is keep a few tracks in progress that I can finish closer to the show and test them out. But most of my focus during that time goes into listening, digging, and selecting music to make sure the set feels fresh and powerful.

Dimitris: Does your approach to music production change based on the feedback or experiences you gain from live performances?

PRAISE(BR): Absolutely. I always try to take the most valuable insights from feedback and apply them to my productions. It’s thanks to that feedback that I was able to improve my sound quality and reach labels like UV. Also, testing tracks during my live sets is a huge part of the process — seeing the crowd’s reaction helps me understand what’s missing or what needs to be adjusted. That direct connection with the dancefloor is one of the best ways to grow as a producer.
