Interview with DJ & producer NuSpirit from Wales UK

 



Welsh trance Producer NuSpirit Who has also Produced as NuSpirit & Future State, recently remixing The Conductor & The Cowboy - Sail Away and Noisetek - Guardians of Destiny, released at the tail end of 2020 and beginning of 2021 respectively.His debut track original By My Side signed to Kinected Records which Charted Number 30 in the beatport 100. In 2022 Rob NuSpirit released a collaboration with the legend Asteroid -Decipher which Went to number 1 in the top 100.

His music has been played around the world by big names like Aly & Fila,, Paul van Dyk,, Alessandra Roncone, Yoshi & Razner, Allen Watts, Xiajro & Pitch and Mista Hisloot to name but a few.

As DJ,NuSpirit has shared stage with DJ’s like RAM, Darren Porter, Liam wilson,, Sean Tyas, Allen Watts, Alessandra Roncone,to name but a few.

NuSpirit is also currently a resident for Uprise Events, and some of his recent gigs have included Rebels Productions (Argentina), Ministry of Sound (London), Cream Ibiza Tour (Swansea), Irish Trance Family (Ireland), Last Night A DJ charity, Saving Light (UK), Magnetic (Scotland), Fortify Events (UK), Ministry Of Sound (Malta), Uprise Events (UK), Together Through Trance (UK), Nowhereworld (Canada), Afterhours FM (Worldwide), Trancefamily UAE & TrancePulse FM (Ireland) and Saturday Sessions (UK). Ministry of sound (London) Stellar Sounds (Madrid)

NuSpirit is also the The main Dj who Runs Nocturnal Knights Radio Show and showcase the best Trance & Dj,s from around the world each week.

We are super glad that Rob has found the precious time to reply in our questions and here we serve you his answers. Enjoy reading  them and maybe you can find the motivation u are asking for to get involved in electronic music culture.




1-Dimitris: It would be nice to start by telling us your 3 most important achievements or goals fulfilled in your career so far that you very are proud of.

NuSpirit: 1. having a Beat Port number 1 with Decipher 2.Playing for Trance sanctuary 12th birthday, 3. Djing Internationally

2-Dimitris: Why and under which circumstances did you took the decision to start DJing or producing electronic dance music?

NuSpirit: I have loved Trance since 1997 it is such a journey of emotions, I believe trance music can change moods & uplift the soul & spirit. So it was more listening to Gatecrasher cds & going to Escape Club in wales, Big Al & Danny Slade really shaped my musical taste,

I then started working with Matt (Asteroid) funnily enough he also used to go to Escape Swansea, and he is from Wales.. He has inspired me and guided me a lot and I am truly thankful to have had this.

3-Can you note down the top 3 producers that have influenced your decision to get involved in the electronic dance music scene and you admire and respect them very much?

NuSpirit: 1. Asteroid 2.will Rees 3. Adam Ellis

4-Dimitris: It would be fantastic to talk about your track Eagles Call on Trancespired. Please tell us how this track came about and what was the idea behind it.

NuSpirit: I started with using the Evenstar song from Lord of the rings the vocal is so powerful, then I started to create the track around that sound, the Name eagles call is about souring and powerful break symbolize this .. as you close your eyes imagine an Eagle in flight

5-Dimitris: How long it took you to produce it and can u describe the production process in simple steps?

NuSpirit: It took around a month to get it from concept to finally ready


6-Dimitris: Did you had any particular difficulties accomplishing that particular track or any specific technical challenges or obstacles that you had to overcome during its production.

NuSpirit: I think as a new producer its always best to have people guide you with the final mixdown and master, for this track I had the pleasure of Will Rees getting the final finish & polish it to shine.

7- Dimitris: Which music composition software or hardware you prefer and why? What is your opinion of the latest movement to produce music with more analogue equipment and with less or without any digital software?

NuSpirit: Ableton Live as I love the work flow for me, love using Spire its my go to synth, and also serum, arts acoustic reverb, and fab filters pro Q3 my go to main Plug ins,

Studio consists of a IMac I 7 , Adam TV5s and a Novation Launchkey 61. Im happy with Digital atm

8-Dimitris: Do you prefer instrumental dance tracks or you adore vocals? Please explain to us your position and if in your latest production you have vocals tell us how did you choose the specific singer and if it was great to work with her/him?

NuSpirit: For me I love instrumentals with haunting Uplifting vocal atmospheres, I do plan some vocal stuff but I like to search for new vocalists


9-Dimitris: If you really like to produce vocal tracks which vocalist/singer or lyricist on electronic dance music you aspire to work with?

NuSpirit: I would love to work with Natalie Gioia

10-Dimitris: Do you believe that artwork on your latest track is good and do you believe that artwork can attract listeners or record buyers? Can you mention the best artwork of a track ever released?

NuSpirit: I like the art work I do think it can attract more people, fav art work - Asteroid Free

11-Dimitris: Can you pick your top 3 record labels including the one released the track that we discuss in this interview and give us a short comment about them?

NuSpirit: 1. Nocturnal Knights 2. FSOE 3. Trancespired where Eagles call is released always enjoyed there releases

12-Dimitris:How much time do you spend promoting yourself in your social media and you see this as essential tool for self promotion and getting bookings too? Which social media is the one that seems to work better for you?

NuSpirit: Not enough ha ha, Yes think it is key but it takes a lot of time for me Facebook works best


13-Dimitris: Do you have your own radio show/podcast/twitch stream or Vlog(video blog)? If yes please give us a comment about it and how long it take you to prepare for it and if you are always excited to produce it?

NuSpirit: I run Nocturnal knights Radio, Prep and mix around 3/4 hrs... yes I love search for new music

14-Dimitris: Do you have any gigs/festival performances confirmed so far for 2023 in which ones are you most excited to perform and why?

NuSpirit: Yes I have 4 confirmed for rest of year, I'm looking forward to playing in Barcelona & also hope to confirm my first tine in Poland end of the year

15-Dimitris: Please share your most funny and most serious incident that happen to you during your DJ performance?

NuSpirit: Most funny& serious my usb's not working and borrowing the last djs music! was serious at the time but now funny to look back on

16-Dimitris: Are you enjoying to visit music conferences and do you have any plans to attend any of them in 2023:

NuSpirit: I plan to go to ADE


17-Dimitris: Are you happy with the way that royalties system works particularly regarding streaming revenue? Do you believe that artists get what they deserve from streaming providers/DJs playing your tracks in gigs/radio and selling music in physical formats like CDs/Vinyl or digitally.

NuSpirit: A lot of time and effort goes into making tracks, I don't thing the system is right for artists

18-Dimitris: Please note for all the new talents that read this interview to get some inspiration from you any technical tips in relation to your DJing or music productions. Also any piece of personal or music business' advice that has helped you to progress even further and is worth telling to the new upcoming talents.

NuSpirit: Networking & Collaboration is the single most effective way to progress in the industry

19-Dimitris: Is there a club classic that you would like to remix or rework in 2023? Do you attempt often to do your own bootlegs of classics?

NuSpirit: Yes I am reworking Luminary -Amsterdam & Push the Legacy for my set, I have finished a rework Of Aly & Fila-eye of Horus.


20-Dimitris: Many artist right now attempt to come closer to their fan base and use the various services in order to offer exclusive content to their most dedicated followers. Do you have any plans to do the same by connecting even more with your most dedicated fans?

NuSpirit: I have always been a clubber at heart so I spend much time on the dancefloor with fans at gigs.

21-Dimitris: Can you describe your music as certain music genre such as trance, house, techno or your music exempts these categorizations? What is your opinion about hybrid styles and the artists who are attempting to mix influences from various genres in their tracks?

NuSpirit: I love making Trance, but I don't like pigeon holing things if I like it will play it. - More experimenting the better


22-Dimitris: Is your music business your full time occupation and are you able to make a leaving out of your music business (DJ/producer/label owner/teaching or mastering tracks)? If not what other jobs are you doing in order to support your income?

NuSpirit: No I have a estate planning Business also
