REVIEW: Maor Levi - Shift EP out on Anjunabeats

 


Maor Levi, one of Anjunabeats' most beloved talents, releases the ‘Shift EP’.

Maor has been a semi-regular contributor to Anjunabeats since 2006, and in that time he has helped to define the modern sound of the label. Maor first signed to Anjunadeep at the age of 15 with 'Lital', before jumping across to Anjunabeats. He's since produced a continuous stream of club hits for the label including classics like ‘Reflect’, ‘Shapes’ and ‘Won’t Say No’.

In 2022, he dropped two remixes of Above & Beyond, taking on 'With Your Hope' and 'Chains' respectively. He thrilled crowds at A&B's Group Therapy Weekender London festival last autumn, and recently joined ilan Bluestone for two thunderous shows in London and Manchester.

Maor’s ‘Shift EP’ features five tracks, including recent singles ‘Alone’ and ‘Let You Go’. On ‘Mhondoro’, first heard on Above & Beyond's Anjunabeats Volume 16 compilation last summer, Maor reunites with fellow Israeli producer OTIOT. Their previous collaboration together, ‘Aria’, amassed over 2M streams. Vocals on ‘Mhondoro’ come courtesy of EL Waves, who has featured on some of ilan Bluestone’s most celebrated records including ‘Will We Remain’, ‘Mama Africa’ and ‘We Are The Universe’.

‘2 Minds’ is a collaboration between Maor and alternative singer-songwriter SLM. On ‘Open Road’, Maor teams up with Californian singer-songwriter Taylr Renee, whose catalogue includes releases on Armada, Revealed and Protocol Recordings.

The climax is rough and punchy perfect to get the big arenas under control. The second track with OTIOT features the exceptional vocal top line by Taylr Renee called Open Road. On this one the big euphoric synths take center stage along with the vocal and its crescendo sequence is melodic and uplifting at its best with dark and sinister melody. Lastly the track  2 Minds  featuring SLM is deep melodic soulful after clubbing anthem perfect to chill in Ibiza this summer with undeniable groove and wonky basslines.
