Interview with Deciduous about Periphery / Nera out now on UV Noir

Deciduous is an audio project composed of two like minded individuals from Ireland. For the couple of years, Paulo and Ryan have risen through the ranks and cemented themselves firmly within the melodic landscape with release on the likes of Future Romance, Running Clouds and now UV Noir.

Deciduous draw inspiration from a range of sources, predominantly influenced by the beauty of nature. Their productions are designed to bring their listeners on a musical journey through the use of progressive synths and rhythmic drum patterns, with a number of their tracks having been supported by some of the biggest artists around.

Their latest tracks Periphery and Nera are out now on the quality imprint UV Noir.

1-Dimitris: 2023 is rolling but it will be cool to let us know how was 2022 for your career. Let us know about achievements or goals achieved that you are proud of.

Deciduous: 2022 was a nice period for us. We used it predominantly to used it to reflect and grow artistically. We were at a point where we wanted to try some new ideas, branch out and develop our style with a focused vision for 2023. As we began to refocus, we found ourselves in a really nice frame of mind and have produced our most complete productions to date. This has set us up for a really special 2023. So in short - having a clear vision and taking the time to challenge ourselves in a different way is something that we are really proud of.

2-Dimitris: Do you have already some concrete plans for 2023 and if you are allowed to announce them to our readers please tell us what you are preparing for us in the coming months regarding releases and performances in gigs/festivals.

Deciduous: 2023 is actually very hard to put into words. We have a lot of on our plate and we can't wait to continue to share news with our listeners. Unfortunately, we are unable to call out explicitly what these are but what we can say is that we have another 6 releases scheduled, few gigs in Ireland, a big remix and a mix or two.

3-Dimitris: It would be fantastic to talk about your tracks Periphery and Nera on UV Noir. Please tell us how these tracks came about and what was the idea behind them.

Deciduous: Sure - Periphery and Nera have both been created with a clear frame of mind and vision to celebrate the beauty of "the minimal". What we mean by that, is that we all tend to over think the amount that goes into a body of music. There is a real simplicity to these tracks, which we are very proud of.

4-Dimitris: How long it took you to produce it and can u describe the production process in simple steps?

Deciduous: Very simple process really, we kept it very minimal to try get the drums nice and night, used some of the synths to create a bit of swing and a very simplistic breakdown but one that had a lot of power to drive the tracks.

5-Dimitris: Did you had any particular difficulties accomplishing that particular track or any specific production challenges.

Deciduous: No all was very clear at the time. Once we had the vision, all seemed to flow quite naturally.

6- Dimitris: Which music composition software or hardware you prefer and why? What is your opinion of the latest movement to produce music with more analogue equipment and with less or without any digital software?

Deciduous: We use Ableton for production, mix down then usually in Logic before we pass to engineers for mastering. Hardware is preferred but we tend to spend a lot of time producing on the move so we are very comfortable with our chosen plug-ins.

7-Dimitris: Is there a club classic that you would like to remix or rework in 2023? Do you attempt often to do your own bootlegs of classics?

Deciduous: We actually have a very special remix coming out of a classic tune that would have inspired us when we were younger to get into dance music. We really enjoyed putting our own spin on it and can't wait to share it with you all.

8-Dimitris: Finally tell us if you are able to make a leaving out of your music business and if not what other jobs are you doing in order to make a decent leaving?

Deciduous: We both have day jobs in different industries. The goal would obviously be to make music full time but that doesn't allow for sustainable living unless you are in the top bracket. We would love to get to that space and who knows maybe we will but we love where were at and what we do.

Dimitris: Your message & wishes for Flux Bpm Online readers.

Deciduous: We thank all for taking the time to read and learn a little bit about us. We look forward to the coming months and sharing new music with you all :)

Thanks to Deciduous for their fantastic answers in this interview and we wish them all their best in their careers and lives.
