ALBUM REVIEW: Lexer - The First Last Day out on This Never Happened

An album two years in the making, ‘The First Last Day’ contains an abundance of contradicting themes - a conflict that reflects how Lexer felt when making the album. The project reflects the balance that Lexer found between daily struggles and the beauty found when getting outdoors into nature. A labour of love that both grounded and inspired him to find new sources of inspiration, Lexer notes…

“There was no reinvention here, but rather the old Lexer coming through with inspiration coming from everywhere. It inspires me to be able to share my emotions with people you don't know and probably never will know, and to get through difficult or good times together through my music”.

'The First Last Day' exemplifies how Lexer's sound has evolved up to now; an agglomeration of melodic and deep house, with elements of a harder dynamic techno sound and electronica. The evidence of this dance-floor-ready sound is shown with his 40+ live dates from this year already, with ten more dates set before the year is out.

‘The First Last Day’ includes a plethora of talented singer-songwriters which include IDER, Jens Kuross, Luke Coulson, Audrey Janssens and Miller Roberts.

[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"]One of the very noteworthy artists on Lane 8's This Never Happened classy label is the talented Lexer who presents his The First Last Day album. Superb journey through deep haunting basslines, moody cinematic strings, warm melancholic pianos and of course wonderful singers who add their own unique colour and atmosphere to the brilliant songs. Lonely Mile (feat. Luke Coulson) is a cinematic travelling track warm retro melodies and stunning vocals. Time Of Our Lives is a neo brakes track with modern construction perfect to keep the journey moving on. Paradise (feat. Audrey Janssens) is driving progressive house with punchy basslines and mesmerizing female vocals. Pillow Talk is a relaxing tune that will work great in club environment with swirling synths and cool vocal samples. Six Days Sun is a powerful deep melodic progressive house instrumental that manages to tell its story truly graciously. Little Friend (feat. Miller Roberts) wins its electro pop 80's infused vibes. Somewhere I Belong is a sparkling progressive house instrumental anthem with big synthy line in the breakdown turning into a big club tool. This World (feat. IDER) is atmospheric and sonically rich with layers and effects to keep you locked in its world.  Nobu has the chunky groovy basslines and old rave like synthy hook to make it big on the dancefloor. Never Said Goodbye (feat. Jens Kuross) is smooth gentle affair with quirky grooves, filmic atmosphere and superb male vocal performance. Finally No Life No Earth is spacious warm spacey track with floating arrangement and retro sensibilities. An excellent album for sure. #PureGold Love IT   [/content]
